Su Roberto’s Mexican Food

on Lake Murray Blvd. One high afternoon, an instantaneous craving washed over me….“Holy shit, it’s time for a burrito.”

So I got in my car and just fuckin’ drove, man. East, as I

recall. As far as the road took me. Which was to Lake Murray Blvd., because my car ran out of gas. After doing

A short time later, my plate arrived with the large Mexi-treat, and a small serving of house made chips as well. I went over to their Salsa bar and got a little sampling of all the dressings, so I could add a wide array of flavors to my dish. The green sauce was great, the red sauce perfectly spicy, and the Pico de Gallo was as expected (nothing too fancy). The salsas went well with the chips, although I wish they gave me more to munch on. They literally only gave me 4 or 5 chips with my plate.

some sexual favors for gas money, I stopped inside Su Roberto’s Mexican Food and eyed the menu like a ravenous… something. I was too hungry to come up with something ravenous. Everything on the menu sounded so damn tasty! And it was cheap! So I decided on the Pollo Asado burrito. The guy at the counter was super nice, and took my order without any confusion, which was great because my Spanish sucks. His wife (presumably) went right in the back and got to work. It’s nice to stop inside of a mom-and-pop restaurant and actually see a mom and pop working hard to serve hungry customers…

As for the burrito itself; I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but the tortilla had a distinct, floury smell. Like it was fluffier and fresher than the mass produced, Taco Bell wrappings. Definitely got my mouth watering. After the first bite, I looked inside to see what else it was stuffed with. Guac and sour crème. It was just what I needed. I’m not a huge fan of chunky, limp onions, so I’m glad they nixed that. Every other bite or so I would crunch into one of their chips for a little salty flavor addition. The chicken was moist and had a perfect, golden char on the outside. I was so full I got a cramp as I walked back to my car. Not only does that tell you what horrible shape I’m in, but also how great and filling that burrito was.

All in all, a great meal. If you’re on your way to Lake Murray for a day, stop by Su Roberto’s first so you can turn your afternoon into a Mexican picnic.
