The newest addition, opened a little over a month ago, is sure to bring a welcome change to the flavor of the street, and definitely rivals San Diego’s best sushi joints. Sabuku Sushi, located at 3027 Adams, boasts the freshest seafood cuts and sushi in San Diego. So fresh, in fact, that some of the “ingredients” are still alive, like the Ama Ebi (live shrimp) and live scallops. Gourmet rolls are cut and skillfully crafted together right in front of you at the huge bar. It is nothing short of amazing to see how something as simple a concept as rice and fish turn into a colorful, delicious work of art.
S I usually go for my favorite type of roll, the crunchie
roll. The spicy crab and eel and little crunchie tempura bits on top fit my personal taste, but every once in awhile I like to switch it up and have the chefs make me something new. With their arsenal of fresh fish and knowledge of an American palette, it’s not unusual to see them create something unheard of, yet delectable, like their Kaboom roll, which features filet mignon. Last visit I ordered the passion roll: an explosive combination of spicy crab, tempura shrimp (my favorite!), avocado, tuna,

and topped with their spicy ginger aioli and cilantro wasabi sauces. The tempura shrimp added the crunch this delicious mouthful needed to balance the avocado and spicy crab. Usually I add some wasabi to each piece, but their house-made sauces made it unnecessary, like a fine steak that doesn’t need A-1.
