Introduction To LAMDA
The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is regarded as one of the most prestigious drama schools in the country. We offer the very best vocational training to students of promise in the performing arts. Our acting course graduates can be seen in the West End, Broadway, Hollywood and the UK’s flagship theatre companies, as well as on television and radio. The Academy also offers a first-class course for stage managers and technicians. Graduates from this course can be found backstage in the worldwide entertainment industry and also thrive in an extraordinary range of other managerial and artistic positions, including television production and arts management.
LAMDA plays a vital role in fuelling the performing arts industry in this country – helping actors, directors, designers, stage managers and technicians to acquire the skills and creativity necessary to excel in these highly competitive professions. We achieve this through an exceptional teaching faculty of experienced tutors, complemented by a large number of visiting specialists and professionals. Together, they deliver a powerful and cutting-edge curriculum.
AN OVERVIEW
By inviting current professionals to work with our students, LAMDA contributes to the development of the dramatic art form. Our interaction with the industry encourages a cross-fertilisation of technique and ideas, which feeds the student experience and encourages staff development. Initiatives such as the LAMDA Long Project and our new writing commissions further our reach, enabling LAMDA to nurture the professional artist and shape the industry within which our students go on to shine.
As an affiliate of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama, the Academy benefits from funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). We offer four full-time higher education accredited courses, validated by the University of Kent. As LAMDA believes the arts should be accessible to everyone, we also offer a rich mix of other programmes to ensure that whatever your ability or aspiration, there is a course at the Academy to challenge and inspire you.
Funding Eligible UK and EU students on the three and two-year courses have access to funded places, with undergraduates also receiving the same loans and grants as other university students. UK students may also be eligible for a bursary to support living expenses from the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. LAMDA operates a Student Hardship Fund and awards a number of scholarships, funded by private and corporate supporters. Please visit

Facilities Joanna Read Principal
The Academy’s main campus is located on the Talgarth Road in Barons Court, West London. Most courses are accommodated on this site and there is a black box studio theatre (seating 75) in which some of LAMDA’s productions are performed. The Academy is currently undertaking a major redevelopment campaign to create a new teaching block and purpose-built theatre on our Talgarth Road campus. During the redevelopment, a number of theatre venues across London will be used to provide more complex stage experience for acting and technical students.
Student Life
There is no housing attached to the Academy, but students are given as much information and assistance as possible in order to find suitable accommodation. LAMDA is affiliated with a NHS medical centre in Kensington, which has access to specialists.
All students are encouraged to take full advantage of the cultural life that London offers. They are also invited to engage in discussions as to the purpose of art and theatre and to become acquainted with the politics of the industry. LAMDA wishes to produce professionals who are culturally aware.
LAMDA has a Students’ Union affiliated to the National Union of Students. The social life of the Academy is enhanced by an annual Poetry Speaking Competition, a Stage Combat Night, Dance Night, Christmas Carol Concert, lectures and master classes by industry professionals, evenings of student performances called ‘Sleazies’ and parties.
More Than Just A Drama School
The core activity of the Drama School is complemented by that of LAMDA Examinations and LAMDA Enterprises. LAMDA Examinations offers qualifications in drama and communications throughout the world.
