One Year Diploma Courses For Postgraduates


Directors Now in its 14th


year, this course aims to provide prospective professional


directors with experience of working on all aspects of theatrical production, from budgeting to performance. The successful candidates will have either completed a college or university course and been sufficiently involved in student drama to indicate serious professional intention, or have adequate experience in aspects of professional theatre to meet the standard of this course. Graduates have been employed by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Almeida, the Bush Theatre and the Shakespeare in the Park Theatre in New York.


Designers


This course aims to provide a prospective professional designer with practical experience of all aspects of theatre design, from budgeting to performance (including touring). It gives the student an opportunity to gain experience of actor, technician and stage management training relevant to the design process. The successful candidate will have either completed a college or university course in a relevant subject and demonstrated serious professional intention and/or gained professional experience in some aspect of design sufficient to meet the standard of the course.


Musical Director and Repetiteur The aim of the course is to give grounding as a Musical Director or Repetiteur, with knowledge of singing, voice preservation, coaching and repertoire. The course is appropriate for music graduates or holders of an equivalent qualification from a music college. Candidates should be proficient in practical keyboard technique and sight-reading.


Movement Instruction


The course aims to train a student to teach movement-related subjects at a senior level to universities, colleges, theatre companies and secondary schools. The student is exposed to many different movement styles and dance techniques, whilst assimilating theory and learning communication skills. Emphasis is placed strongly on the interrelation between movement, Alexander Technique, voice and acting. Experience in movement theatre, dance or gymnastics is necessary. The student needs to be physically fit and able to participate in movement classes as the course is participatory as well as theoretical, with emphasis on learning how to teach by example and demonstration. A good eye for observation of humans and animals is essential.


Admission to all One Year Diploma Courses is by interview and practical work.


Funding: No UK government funding or LAMDA scholarships are available for these courses. Students have to be self-financed.


Qualification: LAMDA Diploma.
