Waste-a-base signs up a record number of receiving sites since its launch
L
eading competitive waste market place, Waste-a-base has enjoyed a record breaking couple of months since its launch, after inviting more than 6,000 sites to join. The service and site now boasts more than 150 unique registered receivers on network, which include Biffa and Cory & Oran. Julian Holloway, commercial manager for Biffa Waste Service said: “With regard to this facility we welcome the invitation to join the Waste-a-base network and use the online quoting tool. In an increasingly competitive market, we appreciate the opportunity to capitalise on not just our cost effective waste management options, but also to promote our emphasis on sustainable solutions including Anaerobic Digestion and Bio-remediation.” The Waste-a-base network now
gives Waste Producers access to more than 250 registered receiving sites, offering an annual permitted waste capacity of more than 53 million tonnes per year. Waste-a-base provides Waste
Producers with the opportunity to utilise more than 10 million tonnes of Landfill Tax exempt capacity for various construction and demolition wastes. Furthermore, Waste-a-base can now deal with more than 90 per cent of all European Waste Codes (EWCs) across its growing network. The Waste-a-base team, through their own experience with waste disposal, identified that there was a need for a more transparent and exhaustive method of dealing with the huge range of waste recovery and disposal facilities out there. The site and service has been developed to meet those needs and provide a competitive, fair solution for all parties involved – this also works towards WRAP’s halving waste to landfill initiative. Waste-a-base is the brainchild of two key players from the waste
management side of the construction and demolition sector – Joe Jackson and Chris Hallward – who between them have spent more than 20 years dealing with the logistical maze of classifying waste and finding the appropriate receiving sites in an economic and sustainable manner. From their own experience, Joe and Chris identified the need to be able to quickly source cost effective and convenient waste management options, which promoted sustainability. The online service allows Waste
Producers and Receivers to trade directly and agree a fair market price for waste disposal or recovery, as well as ensure the safe and efficient disposal or recovery of waste through an easy-to-use web-based tool. This makes it possible for the customer to identify the best waste disposal or recovery options, putting them in control. Waste details are posted by the
Waste Producer with a quotation period specified via their own home page, which allows them to track and manage projects, exchange key documents, access site audits, message receiving sites and more. Waste Receivers are then notified and given the opportunity to quote within the specified period. Waste-a-base then accounts for haulage cost and ranks the receiving sites, giving the cheapest quote to the producer. If acceptable, the Waste Producer can then contract directly with the waste receiving site. Waste-a-base is not just an anonymous online service; its web- based brokerage software is supported by an experienced back-office, in order to handle user enquiries directly. The website went live in late September and is set to revolutionise the way the UK handles waste disposal. For more information on the site, visit
