Deep cleaning of NHS bloodmobiles wins praise from auditors
A drive to standardise the deep cleaning of 36 NHS bloodmobiles has led to praise from National Auditors following an inspection visit in September. NHS Blood and Transplant awarded the national contract for deep cleaning to 24/7 property and people protector SitexOrbis in June.
The clinical deep cleans include an infection control treatment that vaporises a high-integrity disinfectant capable of killing 99.9999% of harmful germs on surfaces as well as in the air.
Readings from swabs taken before and after treatments
ensure levels of hygiene exceed NHS national standards.
Central to the contract is the availability of a national audit trail provided by the contractor’s customer portal, Aura. Through it, NHS staff can access real-time reports online.
Each mobile collection vehicle is used by between 40 to 60 donors a day. NHSBT Lead Operations Support Manager, Philip Neill said: “Following a competitive tender process, SitexOrbis was awarded the contract in June 2010
as the sole provider to clean NHSBT’s 36 bloodmobiles and has demonstrated a clear understanding of the work that we do.”

Ultra Floor provides a smooth finish
The summer school holidays always provide the perfect window for carrying out building maintenance. This summer, Premier Flooring Solutions secured the contract to install new floors in several classrooms of a Manchester primary school. The whole project was 400m² in size and took 4 weeks to complete.
Director of Premier Flooring Solutions, Shaun Davies and his team applied a 3 stage sub-floor preparation process. Firstly, the concrete substrate was damp proofed using Ultra Floor DPM IT one coat. A liquid applied damp proof membrane system for sub-floors with a RH of up to 92%.
Surfaces exceeding 75% RH require the application of a damp proof membrane system. The mixed components of such, act as a moisture suppressant over the substrate where residual moisture is retained, protecting subsequent smoothing and levelling compounds, adhesives and floor coverings.
Once damp proofing had been carried out, priming was the next requirement of this project, and one of many flooring installations. Ultra Floor Prime IT N enhances adhesion to non-porous substrates such as ceramic, terrazzo, asphalt and epoxy based damp proof membranes.
Prime IT N prepares the surface, enhancing adhesion and sealing it. The bond strength of subsequent repair mortars, cement based levelling compounds and similar cementitious underlayments to the surface will then be

dramatically improved, enhancing durability. Premier Flooring Solutions successfully completed sub-floor preparation of several classrooms in a Manchester school using Ultra Floor products.
The final stage of this project was to apply Ultra Floor Level IT two, smoothing and levelling the surface ready to receive the vinyl floor covering. A traditional two-part system, Level IT two is ideal for levelling uneven internal
substrates prior to the application of a floor
covering. The two-part system allows for fast and efficient mixing preparation. Level IT two, Ultra Floor’s best selling floor levelling compound, combines excellent flow characteristics with strong adhesion properties through the inclusion of a synthetic latex liquid component. This
liquid component provides increased flexural capacity, ensuring Level IT two has exceptional compatibility with timber substrates.
In this application, Level IT two was applied at a 5mm depth but the product can be laid up to a 10mm thickness.
