T Pushing the boundaries of innovation
he healthcare sector’s leading provider of digital dictation
software, Lexacom, is launching a brand new software program that will give its customers even more flexibility when improving the efficiency of their workflow management systems.
Lexacom was the first software house to launch a digital dictation product in the UK a decade ago and is well known for pushing the boundaries of innovation through the digital dictation solutions it delivers to GP practices, hospitals and PCTs in the UK.
Its software has played a leading role in helping practices to slash their referral times from weeks to days and, in many cases, to hours.
But as part of Lexacom’s ongoing development programme and to address recent advances in information technology, it embarked on a 12-month project to re-write its software and the
Lexacom will also be introducing apps for leading mobile devices – including the iPhone – and is planning to introduce a VR platform shortly.
Lexacom managing director, Andy Whiteley, a practising GP himself, said:
latest V3 program will shortly be available to existing and new customers.
To meet the functionality demands of workflow
management systems today and into the future, Lexacom’s V3 software will be fully compatible with all of the major clinical systems in the healthcare sector, compatible with all leading digital dictation devices, more scalable for multi-user practices
S Challenges of change
tructural changes announced to the health service
introduce a number of new challenges to the way GPs will work within the 500 consortiums that need to be formed. Existing clinical skills will not be enough for GPs to discharge their new responsibilities as commissioners of healthcare. Consortiums will therefore need to help them with finance, management, accountancy and data analysis.
As more and more participants become involved in planning the proposed structural reforms, implementing clear and transparent communication

channels will play a central role in the successful delivery of the programme.
New ways of working - improving communication across teams
Web-based applications such as Projectplace resolve many challenges faced in change programmes by providing the entire team, including external participants, with a common platform adapted to particular cooperation and communication needs.
Providing a centralised, comprehensive and visual overview of important project
or hospitals, offer even more scope for streamlining workflow systems, the most reliable Lexacom product ever produced, and will contain a dedicated reporting engine to further reduce referral times.

“We’re always striving to give our customers more ways to improve the efficiency of their workflow management systems and by making a substantial investment in re-writing our software from back to front, we are giving customers a new digital dictation platform that is even more robust, flexible, functional and will challenge the 40% time savings we have already achieved with earlier versions.”
information (tollgates, progress, scheduled work, etc.) makes it easier for consortiums to communicate with each other and, as such, to reach consensus on goals, status and required changes.
Another factor to consider is the growing trend whereby social media interaction is finding its way into our professional lives. Projectplace, which has been driving the development of online collaboration tools for over 12 years and is among the first companies to recognise this, now enables team members to communicate in a quick and very visible way similar to Facebook and Twitter.
Collaboration in the health services
Projectplace is currently used in the health services. Kyle McClelland, divisional manager at West Hertfordshire Hospitals chose Projectplace as the major web based project management system for implementing the Watford Hospital PFI Project.
He says that Projectplace “provides the simplest and most robust communication tool for our non-technical audience, while still providing the necessary communication, project management and file sharing capabilities”.
