LOBALFOUNDRIES and Freescale Semicon- ductor announced plans to bring a new class of

thin film storage (TFS) flash memory products to market on 90nm technology. The advanced techno- logy is expected to be deployed in Freescale micro- controllers (MCUs) targeted for applications ranging from consumer electronics and household appliances to medical devices and smart metering systems.

Freescale’s TFS technology with FlexMemory capabi- lity – configurable electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) – is used in both the ColdFire+™ and Kinetis™ families of 32-bit MCUs. This next generation non-volatile memory (NVM) technology based on the thin film storage concept will be manufactured on GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ 90nm technology. Early test chips are already in pro- duction at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Fab 7 in Singapore, with technology certification expected to complete in the first half of 2011. http://www.globalfoundries.com/gtc2010/

hanks to a process developed by Prof. Dr. Ferdi Schüth, Director at the Max-Planck-Institute

for Coal Research in Muelheim (Germany), and the scientists and technologists of hte Aktiengesellschaft

in Heidelberg (Germany) headed by Dr. Dirk De- muth and Dr. Wolfram Stichert, the search for new and more effective catalysts can now be carried out up to 100 times faster than was possible just a few years ago. For their invention the scientists have been nominated for the “Deutscher Zukunftspreis”, the German President’s prize for technology and innovation.

hte Aktiengesellschaft (AG), a public limited com- pany, is a leading provider of technology solutions and services for customers in the energy, refinery, chemicals and environmental sectors. The close ties with BASF (Bloomberg: BAS GY) guarantee long-term orientation and stability. http://www.hte-company.de

eithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE: KEI), a world leader in advanced electrical test instruments and

systems, has introduced the six-slot Model 707B and single-slot Model 708B switch matrix mainframes, which are optimized for semiconductor test applica- tions in both lab and production environments. By providing significantly higher command-to-connect speeds, these switch mainframes make faster test sequences and greater overall system throughput possible. Equally important, these new mainframes support Keithley’s Model 7174A “Air Matrix” 8x12
