Metalcasting Congress 2011 AFS will host the 115th


Conferences, Workshops and Webinars Metalcasting Congress to be held April


5-8, 2011, at the Renaissance Hotels & Resorts, Schaumburg, IL. The metalcasting congress will feature more than 100 tech- nical presentations discussing the latest innovations in casting technology and process improvements. The Metalcasting Con- gress is the largest annual gathering for metalcasters in North America as it provides the venue to learn from industry experts and network with other foundry personnel.


A call for papers was distributed for papers based upon top- ics relevant to the metalcasting industry, covering areas rang- ing from operations, new technologies, procedures, processes, and other areas that enhance product quality and productivity of foundry and diecasting operations. In addition to the call for metalcasting papers, AFS also issued a call for papers and presentations for the casting design & purchasing sessions. Papers will cover all areas related to metal casting design and purchasing, including casting design, process and material basics, process and material advancements, computer-based modeling and simulation, rapid prototyping, casting conver- sions, identifying suppliers and supply chain management. The casting design & purchasing sessions are being held in conjunction with Cast in North America during the 115th


AFS recently hosted a sold-out workshop on Best Practices in Ductile Workshop at AFS. The workshop discussed future trends in ductile iron and provided practical advice and best practices for ductile iron production. Among the topics that were addressed in the workshop were: ductile iron specifica- tions, melting and charge materials, inoculation and treatment practice, filtration, gating, risering, quality assurance, austem- pering and the latest in research and new developments. Work is underway to produce a Spanish language version of this workshop that should be available by video in early 2011.


The upcoming AFS conference, the 2010 Marketing and Sell- ing of Castings Conference Holiday Spectacular is designed to connect casting producers with casting designers and users. The conference is scheduled for Dec 7-8, 2010 in Schaum- burg IL.

IJMC Advisory and Board of Review member John Camp- bell will present a one-day workshop on the Casting Filling & Feeding on Nov 3, 2010 at the AFS offices in Schaumburg IL. Dr. Campbell will discuss his concepts on improving casting properties and reducing defects through the application of the latest concepts on filling and feeding of castings.
