Buyers down at PATA T

BY LUCIANA LEITÃO

he Pacifi c Asia Travel Associa- tion’s Travel Mart 2010 should have been a chance for stakehold-

ers in the tourism sector to show their work, make business contacts and meet new clients but participants complained about the quality of the buyers. This year the event took place in

Macau from September 14 to 17 with about 1,000 people from 60 countries participating. The general manager of Cape Si-

enna Hotel and Villas in Phuket, Frank Dreist, said he was not all that satisfi ed with this year’s outcome. “I think last year was probably better in terms of the quality of buyers,” he said, explaining that this year’s clients were smaller op- erators. When an enterprise such as Cape

Sienna decides to be involved in the PATA Travel Mart, it expects to “meet new people, new contacts, see old cus- tomers” and to do business. This year’s “probably wasn’t [profi table],” Mr Dreist said.

World stage According to the Macau Government Tourist Offi ce, PATA Travel Mart at- tracted 530 sellers from 295 organisa- tions, 303 buyers from 269 organisa- tions – as well as 152 journalists from 13 different destinations.
