Review2010
The Year so far in Pixel
WHAT PIXEL SAID IN 2010
This was the year in which many major brands celebrated fifty years of camera innovation and Pixel magazine itself celebrated the 20th anniversary of its first issue. We take a look back at the key products, issues and events covered by Pixel in the first half of 2009.
The trade year began with the
official launch of Samsung's long-awaited NX10, firmly establishing the compact size, easy-to-use camera with DSLR quality imaging as a desirable category in the UK and worldwide market. Fujifilm made
the decision early this year to discontinue their Quickload films, as the cost and work involved in manufacture was no longer warranted by the demand. However, Fuji's Choose Film capping continues to promote film as a real choice for photographers. Canon innovated with the
Legria camcorder range, designed to capture the new market for camcorders. Once only really used for weddings and baby's first steps, this new generation of products is for the social networking generation who want to make snapshot videos of everyday life. The Amateur
Photographer Magazine Awards results were announced, recognising readers' favourite brands, products and retailers. Once again, congratulations to the Pixel subscribers who were amongst the winners and special mentions! In fact, there was plenty of cause to celebrate at the beginning of 2010: Croydon based High Street Radio and Photographic turned fifty, proving there's

real staying power in the independent trade! The CES show also saw plenty
of life in the market, with a record number of new products on display and a reported 330 new exhibitors this year! On the back of this, we were able to look at what was coming up at this year's Focus On Imaging, which respectively later announced a record breaking number of pre-registered visitors. Some of the key products
launched in those time were the EOS 550D, Canon's consumer friendly lightweight DSLR; Ricoh's CX3; Panasonic's TZ8 and updates to many stabilised compact ranges. Pentax began March by launching the Kx camera in
twelve eye-catching colours, making it the first DSLR to really offer style options and go for the fashion/colour market. Months of groundwork
culminated in Eastbourne based business CMS rebranding into Veritek. Originally repairers of minilabs, the business has now expanded into Europe and celebrated with new company branding which would make online and international marketing easier. As always, the PMA show in
the USA provided a wealth of new interest for those who visited - of course, reported by Pixel for those manning the stores at home! Headlines included Harman and Hahnemuhle's collaboration on specialist
