Summary


It appears organizations are increasing their use of digital publishing by creating digital publications for multiple platforms – mobile and eReader platforms in particular. The traditional model of creating digital editions for the web based on print magazine files seems to be trending downward, in favor of a new era, where organizations create digital editions from scratch that are designed to be consumed digitally – whether that’s on a desktop computer, laptop, netbook, iPad or some other mobile device. The iPad appears to be a particularly desirable platform for digital publishing, outpacing the iPhone after just four months in the market, with nearly one in three respondents reporting that they plan to publish on the iPad within six months.


This trend – creating editions specifically for online consumption – should help improve the reading experience for digital publications, as content creators are finally able to fully take advantage of all the medium offers, including rich media and interactivity.
