James River is outside, but the rooms say Potomac River

If you’re lamenting the lack of a designer show house to stroll through in Washington this fall, consider a drive to Richmond to a 1913 Tudor mansion on a bluff overlooking the James River. Rothesay, as the 10,000-square- foot house is called, is this year’s Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer House. The property has been redecorated by 46 designers and artisans including Washington’s Mary Douglas Drysdale, who did the living room. “My room blends art, architec- ture and decoration,” Drysdale says of her space, whose creamy glazed vanilla walls (Linen White by Benjamin Moore) show off modern photography such as Max Hirshfeld’s color portraits and a carved Great Dane by folk artist Mark A. Perry over the mantel. The Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer House &Garden Tour, Rothesay on the James, is at 1234 Rothesay Cir., Richmond. It will be open through Oct. 11. Hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $20. There is off-site parking with a shuttle.
