Montanari TEACHER, WATERCOLORIST Sara B. “Sally” Montanari,
who during the 1960s and ’70s taught students with learning disabilities at the Lab School of Washington, died Sept. 1 at the Paul Spring Retirement Commu- nity in Alexandria of complica- tions from a heart attack. She was 93. Mrs. Montanari taught Eng-
lish in the late 1950s and early 1960s in schools in Tehran, where her husband served as a Foreign Service officer. Sara Brownell was born in
what is now Bala Cynwyd, Pa., and grew up there and in Toledo. She was a 1938 graduate of Bennington College in Vermont, where she studied set design. She was writing for the Berkshire Evening Eagle in westernMassa- chusettswhen shemet her future husband, also a reporter for the Eagle. During World War II, she
cleaned spark plugs as an avia- tion mechanic at the old Nation- al Airport. Mrs. Montanari was a mem-
ber of Mount Vernon Unitarian Church and a volunteer at the Children’s Museum of D.C. She enjoyed painting with watercol- ors.
Her husband of 57 years, Vale-
rio “Val”Montanari, died in 1998. Survivors include four daugh- ters, Ann Montanari of Annan- dale and Susan Knepper, Nancy Indelicato andWendyKilpatrick, all of Alexandria; and five grand- children.

Robert Rudy, 82, a retired
computer specialist in the State Department’s Information Sys- tems Office, died Sept. 7 at the Manor Care nursing facility in Potomac. He had cancer. Mr. Rudy, a lifelong Washing-
tonian, spent 17 years with the State Department, working in the automated data processing division and the Information Systems Office’s payroll depart- ment. He worked in Washington and Paris until his retirement in 1982. Mr.Rudy began his career as a

The cause was congestive heart failure. Mr. Bond worked inWashing-
ton for Gadsby Hannah and Seattle-based Perkins Coie, ad- vising and representing large and small businesses on how to compete for and perform con- tracts with the federal govern- ment. After his retirement fromPer-

from Georgetown University in 1959, he served as a clerk for Judge Catherine B. Kelly of the old D.C.Municipal Court. In retirement, Mr. Bond tu-
tored English and mathematics for two years in D.C. public schools with Experience Corps, a national community service or- ganization.More recently, hewas a docent atWashington National Cathedral. His memberships included

ty at Georgetown in 1975 and retired in June. For many years, he served as the English Depart- ment’s director of graduate stud- ies and taught classes on the novel, romantic poetry and the representation of Jewish people in English literature and culture. He wrote four books, includ-
ing “Figures of Conversion: The Jewish Question,” published in 1995, and “Theatrical Nation: Jews and Other Outlandish Eng- lishmen in Georgian Britain,” published this year. Michael Ragussis was born in

taught American history, math and social studies at Herbert Hoover Middle School in Poto- mac. Earlier, she taught at Way- side Elementary School in Poto- mac and Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School in Silver Spring. A Darnestown resident, she
started working for the county schools in 1990 as a substitute teacher. She helped create a wildflower garden at Jones Lane Elementary in Gaithersburg with a grant from the Chesa- peake Bay Trust. Ruth Anne Reinecke was a
native of St. Paul, Minn., and a 1970 secondary-education grad- uate of the University of Dayton in Ohio. She received a master’s degree in elementary education in 1993 from what was then Trinity College inWashington. She was a member of St.
