GDS PREVIEW
GDS – International Event for Shoes & Accessories 10 to 12 September 2010
fashion and trend fair is showing a slight increase of around two percent on exhibitors compared with the previous year's event and with the event in March of this year. Over the past several seasons GDS has increasingly established itself as a groundbreaking information, trend and networking platform for the shoe industry: "Once again the Düsseldorf shoe fairs are strongly positioned. The overall concept is thoroughly understood, adopted and supported by the industry," explains Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President and CEO of the organising company, Messe Düsseldorf. "With its unique combination of product variety, information and lifestyle orientation, GDS is held in high esteem in the industry. The two percent increase in exhibitors in season comparison is distributed throughout all areas. Exhibitors from the Netherlands are returning in high numbers." "The shoe industry is clearly recuperating after the rather difficult year 2009. This is also reflected in the excellent exhibitor numbers for GDS," elucidated GDS Director Kirstin Deutelmoser. "The manufacturers have not lost their courage for entering the market with new collections, so that a visit to the shoe shop is always an experience for the consumer. The fact that the first half-year 2010 was satisfactory for the German shoe retail trade is a good indicator that it will be in the mood to order at GDS from 10 to 12 September."

"Follow the Trends": Trend Concept Optimised Further As Kirstin Deutelmoser also explained, “GDS has continued to optimise its trend concept in recent months: "Information remains extremely important for the industry. And as an international fashion and trend fair it's our responsibility and duty to offer this added value to industry and trade. And that in a concise, focused manner, without overloading them." Under the brand umbrella "Follow the Trends", the expanded trend concept at GDS is implemented throughout the exhibition halls, acting as a type of guidance system. What's new is that visitors can already see in the entrance area exactly where which trend themes can be found. Trend installations also information on product details and inspiration regarding the presentation of goods in the shop. In addition, experts deliver insights into long-term lifestyle trends and their effect on shoes and accessories. Lectures on important fashion trends, ordering tendencies and special topics round out the programme.
Even More Information: The "Speakers Corner" All industry lectures and seminars at GDS (with the exception of the Shop Assistants' Day) take place in the "Speakers Corner" lecture area in hall 7.0. An inspiring and competently assembled event programme with 20 lectures by international speakers awaits visitors during the three days of the trade fair. Visitors receive extensive trend information for the 2011 Spring/Summer season, may deepen their knowledge of the styles or participate in a lecture on fair trade developments in the shoe industry. Further seminars offer tips and inspiration on the presentation of wares. A panel discussion on the topic of wellness, and the Designers Networking Drink with Footwear Talk Show, round out the diverse event programme.
