retailer Pavers Ltd was delighted to hear of David Cameron’s humanitarian Indian trade drive and his aim to strengthen relations with India. Stuart himself is no stranger to India, and earlier this year Pavers Ltd was named Best Overseas Investment 2010 in the Yorkshire Forward and UK Trade and Investment Going Global Awards. The Awards are designed to recognize regional companies that are growing their business through international trade. Pavers Ltd was given the award of Best Overseas Investment 2010 for its


heavily invested joint venture based in Mauritius allowing them to take advantage of the expanding Indian consumer market. Speaking about the award and David Cameron’s mission Stuart Paver, Managing Director of Pavers Ltd said: “Pavers are delighted with the progress of their joint venture in India so far but we are only at the start of the journey. India provides an opportunity unparalleled in the world at the moment and Pavers are at the forefront of the retail revolution occurring there. Pavers believe the key to dominating an emerging market like India is to build a local responsive infrastructure that can rapidly feed the demands of the domestic market. Pavers has invested in building its infrastructure in India, from unique


research and development facility through to just in time manufacturing linked into a constant stream of retail data from our partners. Building a national distribution network with depots in Pondicherry, Delhi and shortly Mumbai to effectively supply its retail partners on a weekly and sometimes daily basis for key stores. The local norm is to work on 2 to 4 deliveries per year. Pavers are now seen as one of the best international brands in the


country and are frequently listed with top international footwear brands such as Jimmy Choo, Gucci and Prada in the Indian press.

Emma Hope recognised for outstanding contribution to fashion


Footwear designer Emma Hope will be awarded an Honorary Fellowship


by University of the Arts London, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the fashion industry. The award will be presented at the University’s annual graduation ceremonies at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 16 July 2010. Hope joins an impressive list of fashion leaders to receive an Honorary


Degree from the University, including Suzy Menkes OBE, Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto, Mario Testino, Harold Tillman, John Galliano, Jimmy Choo, and Rosita Missoni. Emma Hope (Honorary Fellow, awarded 16 July 2010) studied Footwear


and Accessories at Cordwainers College (now part of London College of Fashion) graduating in 1984. After stints designing for Laura Ashley and Betty Jackson, Hope opened her first shop in Notting Hill in 1986. Through designs that combine luxury and practicality, she has since established herself as one of Britain’s most successful footwear designers. She has won numerous accolades, including five Design Council awards for footwear and a Harpers & Queen Design Award. Her shoes and accessories enjoy popularity across the world, with retail presence in the US, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. Other figures honoured during the ceremony this year include fashion


designers Margaret Howell CBE RDI (Honorary Doctor) and Agnès Troublé (Honorary Doctor), fashion commentator Professor Colin McDowell MBE (Honorary Doctor), actor Simon Callow (Honorary Fellow), artist Antony Gormley OBE RA (Honorary Fellow), News International Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks (Honorary Fellow) and director Joe Wright (Honorary Fellow).


Londonedge gets off on the right foot Footwear at Londonedge and Londoncentral has become an integral part

wedges and stilettos adorned with skulls, flowers and zombies from Iron Fist plus towering heels and sexy shapes from US brand Pleaser. Nitelife Footwear have been working hard to produce a new bespoke


range of footwear which features studs, spikes and claws and will be showcased at Londonedge in September. Brit vintage brand Warrior Clothing will also unveil their gorgeous new desert boots at the show. Launched in July 2010 by parent company Famous Stars & Straps, FMS


Shoes will make their Londonedge debut this Autumn. The range includes three styles of shoe; ‘The Future’, ‘Amp’ and ‘OG’ covering high tops and low trainers in leather, suede and canvas.

September will also welcome the return of new T.U.K. brand Dude Shoes with their slouchy, feather-light designs with a supple Du Pont sole which moulds to the foot shape for a comfy fit. The line includes canvas loafers for men, women and children in a range of colours. Of course there’s also a number of great exhibitors who compliment the


footwear sector at Londonedge with socks and hosiery. Brand new exhibitor Stockings and Romance offer fully fashioned stockings for the perfect 1940s ad 1950s pin-up alongside bullet bras, suspender belts and waist cinchers. Established hosiery company Jonathan Aston will also appear for the


first time at Londonedge with a range of fashion tights and knee high socks, legwarmers, anklet socks and footless tights whilst newbie Music Legs will exhibit sexy hosiery for daring girls. The next Londonedge and Londoncentral will take place from 5-7th September 2010 at the Olympia National Hall, Kensington, London, W14.
