MODA REVIEW

Moda reports record attendance as industry confidence returns

to August 2009, making it the busiest August edition of the show to date. The event played host to the second edition of Moda Lingerie &

M

Swimwear, the new national show for the intimate apparel industry first launched in February this year, alongside established events Moda Woman, Moda Menswear, Moda Footwear and Moda Accessories. Over 1,450 brands showcased their spring/summer 2011 collections across the five shows, with some reporting record orders. The mood across the halls was one of renewed optimism, with Moda attracting high-quality buyers from across the UK and a large number of new exhibitors. In total, over 400 footwear brands were in attendance at Moda, with

Levis, Ben Sherman, One True Saxon, Mel by Melissa, Kickers, Tommy Hilfiger and Geox debuting alongside the likes of Dkode, Victoria Delef, Berkemann, Florsheim and Nagore. These new brands boosted an already very strong line-up of names, which included the likes of Terra Plana, Xti, Wilfords, Scholl, Start-rite, Rieker, Rocket Dog, Paolo Vandini, Pod, Naturino, Josef Seibel, Hush Puppies, Grinders, Gant, Frank Wright, Caprice, Cheaney, Barker, Birkenstock, Rockport, Softwaves, Garvalin, Bourne, Boxfresh, United Nude, Chinese Laundry, Lelli Kelly, CAT Footwear, Wilfords and Anatomic & Co. Exhibitors at Moda Footwear were pleased with both attendance and the

calibre of retailer visiting the show. “Moda Footwear is our main exhibition of the season and the place where we consistently write our orders,” says Stephen Joseph, UK distributor for Caprice. “This season in particular however we saw new independents and opened up accounts with them, including some people we’ve been keen to bring on board for several seasons.” Retailers, too, were impressed with the show. ‘’There is always a good

range of products to see at Moda and we spent the whole three days meeting our suppliers and making re-orders,” says Andrew Marshall, owner of Strolling 4 Shoes, in Bowness, Cumbria. “It’s a great opportunity for retailers to see what is out there as everything is under one roof. The venue is excellent – it’s in an accessible location, it’s easy to park and the facilities are great and I would absolutely recommend the show to new retailers.’’

oda, the UK’s largest trade show for the fashion, footwear and intimate apparel industries, has reported record visitor attendance at its August 2010 edition, which ran at the NEC, Birmingham on 8-10 August. The show saw a 22 per cent increase in attendance compared

Steve Fitzsimmons, owner of Edwards of Manchester, meanwhile, says, ‘’I thought the show was very good, the footwear section is now getting better and is now the best in the UK. There were more brands exhibiting and most of our ladies brands were showing, and this gives you a snapshot of the trends for the following season and it makes it easier to see who is hot and where your budgets should be spent. Moda now has become an important show for me and my buyers to attend.’’ On the Sunday and Monday of the show, Hush Puppies hosted a Happy Hour on the Footwear Plaza to celebrate the launch of its new collection, and this proved very popular with buyers. Rocket Dog, who returned to Moda for a third season, received fantastic

feedback from the show. Tony Greenfield, Managing Director of Rocket Dog Brands International Ltd, said “Moda has once again proven to be the show to exhibit at. The show improves every season and the layout this time was fantastic. Our location, coupled with new stand design proved a hit with both new and existing customers so we have already got Moda in the diary for February 2011”. North & South Footwear Limited, agents for Sanita, Snipe and Nagore,

exhibited all three brands at Moda and the customer response was extremely positive. Kevin Buck from North & South Footwear Ltd commented “This season the Moda show provided a constant flow of traffic and the ambience at the show was great. We were pleased to welcome new faces onto the stand alongside our existing customers who love our brands.” Colette Tebbutt, managing director of show organiser ITE Moda comments:

“The feedback from each of our show sectors this season has been excellent, and record attendance figures underline both the strength of the show itself and returning confidence within the industry. It’s particularly encouraging to have seen such a positive reaction to new exhibitors and new areas of the show such as The Collections. It’s always been our aim to bring the whole industry together at Moda, and this season we’ve been able to expand the scope of Moda another step further across each area of the show.”

The next edition of Moda takes place at the NEC, Birmingham on 20-22 February 2011.
