Women’s: Vintage Where Marc and Miuccia lead, the masses
tend to follow. Prada, Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs unashamedly channelled the distinct aesthetic of TV series Mad Men for Fall/Winter 2010, culminating in an authoritative vision of prim and proper femininity. Heralding the imminent return of ladylike elegance twin-sets, pretty vintage print blouses and neat jackets are paired with coordinating accessories, leather gloves and handbags; worthy of the eternally stylish Grace Kelly. The aesthetic extends to footwear, as
classic courts and vintage shapes are rendered appropriate for daywear. Luxurious leathers and polished finishes reiterate the expected propriety, however, discreet details contemporise the style.
Marc Jacobs’ youthful Mary Jane update
is rendered in a pearlescent silver finish, a diamante fastening and exaggerated round toe recalling classic dance shoes. Similarly Milly by Michelle Smith rejuvenates the brogue with patent and suede details, subtle details that reinvigorate the style for a new generation. An ideal style for the tricky Summer to Winter transitional period, the shapes work equally well when paired with tapered trousers or flesh-tone fishnets. Louis Vuitton’s more directional design
features a contrast heel and bow detail, and heralds the unexpected return of the pointed toe. As designers slowly embrace the opinion-dividing shape, last popular in the mid Nineties along with the kitten heel; expect the evolution of ladylike elegance to continue for Fall/Winter 2011.

Bow Detail Court The ubiquitous court is updated with a solid blocky high heel. Flirty peep-toe and bow details reinforce the use of snakeskin leather finishes that promote a subverted vision of femininity.
Two-Tone Ankle strap A contrast toe detail pays subtle homage to the iconic Chanel pump, adding an air of genteel refinement to a stiletto heeled court. Experiment with unexpected colorways, including brown and cream, to further update the aesthetic.
Pointed Toe Sling-back Heralding the unexpected return of the slingback, a pointed toe is paired with a delicate bow detailing. A limited color palette exaggerates the ladylike elegance, coordinate heel and detail, but contrast the finishes for a contemporary juxtaposition.
