Of St. Simons Island GA, formerly of Potomac MD, died August 22, 2010 following a long illness. In 1969, he moved to Washington, DC, where he was executive assistant to the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury. In 1973, Secretary George Schuiz presented Ed with the Treasury Department Exceptional Service Award citing the work he had done on the Guaranteed Student Loan Program and estab- lishing Sallie Mae. He left the Treasury to become co-founder and executive vice presi- dent of Charts E.Walker Associates from which he retired in 1988. Ed was active in Republican Politics in Montgomery County, Maryland, run- ning for County Executive in 1986. He was also the driving force behind the construction of Aquatic Centers in Montgomery County. His wife of 52 years, Susan Gannon, two daughters, Stacey Apfelbaum, and Gretchen Paulsen, and one son, David Gannon, survive him. A daugh- ter, Stephanie Gannon, predeceased him. In 1929, during the depression, she worked for the Bockoven family for her room and board while attending Clark High School. For a short time she worked in Watertown and later she was employed at Citizens State Bank in Clark. She passed her civil service exam and worked in Minneapolis for the Navy Department. Her business career then led her to the University of Minnesota Center for Continuing Education. Her commitment to politics and women’s rights issues heightened when she worked at the University. It was there she became a member and secretary of the famous 2nd Ward Club. This Club fostered the political careers of Hubert Humphrey, Eugene McCarthy, mayors of .
An avid gardener and railroad fan died unex- pectedly on September 4, 2010. Tim was born to George and Oleta Costello on December 17, 1937 in Washington DC. He was married to Shirley Costello and together they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary ear- lier this summer. Of Bowie, Md. passed away on September 4, 2010. He was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Reed of Brockton, Mass. and was preceded in death by his sister Sylvia of Brockton Mass. and wife of 26 years, Lilymae Reed. He is survived by his brothers Gordon and Wayne Reed both of Bridgewater, Mass, his loving wife of 30 years Frances Reed , his children by Lilymae Reed, Thomas Reed of Hanover, Pa., Melinda Formento and Jonathan Reed both of Cape May Court House, NJ. Whitney was born in Glens Falls, NY. He was an Eagle Boy Scout in his youth and graduated from Brockton High School in 1947. He completed BS andMADegrees in Germanic Languages at Boston University in 1952, Masters of International Affairs at George Washington University in 1956, and an hon- orary Doctor of Strategic Intelligence Degree from the Defense Intelligence Col- lege. Whitney also completed advanced studies in Germanic Languages and Litera- ture at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany 1957-59, Free University Berlin 1966, and attended the National War Col- lege 1969-70. He worked for the National Security Agency from 1952 to 1993. Whit- ney retired from NSA as the Commandant of the National Cryptologic School (1986 to 1993) and NSA/CSS Deputy Director for Education and Training. He was a lifelong champion of the foreign language com- munity and a member of the Board of Directors and past Vice President and Trea- surer and of the National Museum of Lan- guage. Whitney was a bibliophile, logophile, and oenologist. A rosary will be said at 11:30 AM followed by a memorial Mass that will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 14720 Annapolis Road Bowie, Md. on Saturday, September 11 at 12p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Whitney’s memory to National Museum of Language,

Minneapolis and a host of congressmen, both state and national.
In the early 1940’s, she was united in marriage to Rudolph Fleischhacker. To this union two children were born, a baby girl, Valerie who died in infancy and James E. This marriage later ended in divorce.
In 1966 Val accepted a position with Congressman Donald Fraser in Washington, D.C. She was involved from the beginning of the struggle for passage of the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment). She worked closely with Congresswoman Martha Griffiths and her staff. She was present when the House and Senate passed the ERA.
In 1974, Ms. Fleischhacker became a lobbyist, assuming directorship of N-Cap (Nurses Coalition for Action in Politics.) This was the first attempt by the nurses to establish a national political action committee.
Val retired in 1977. After moving to Harrisburg, Pa. in 1980, she was named coordinator of PEWA (Pennsylvania Elected Women’s Association) for Dauphin-Cumberland counties. She also volun- teered for the MoreWomen’s Candidates project of the Pennsylvania Commission forWomen.
She returned to her roots in Clark in 1990, living once again in the home her parents owned. Val opened the home to others and established Gram Val’s B & B. Her continued interest in education and political activism resulted in her election to the Clark School Board and numerous letters to the editor in local papers.
Val moved once again in 2005. She settled in Naperville, Il. to be close to her son, Jim. After living there, she moved toWookey’s Assisted Living. Val was a resident there when she passed away.
Survivors who are grateful for having shared her life are her son, James E. (Ann) Fleischhacker of Naperville, IL, sisters, Arvilla Carr of Clark and Genevieve Stockwell of Longmont, CO, a sister-in-law, Margaret Geise of Clark, and 2 granddaughters, Inga Fleischhacker and Heidi McBride. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was a daughter in infancy, Valerie, siblings, Keith, Emil and Vince Geise and Regina Hanson and a brother-in-law, Jack Carr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory can be directed to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, MN.
