On trail on #1: The next community is Weymouth?, originally settled in 1783 by United Empire Loyalists. This quiet town on the Sissiboo River is home to the WeymouthHistorical Society and theNewFrance– “The Electric City” interpretive centre. Here youwill learn of a remote community in
the forest,27 kmfromWeymouth thatwith their dynamo-powered generator became the first village in Nova Scotiawith electric lights.
Gilbert’s Cove Lighthouse along Rte #1, on the shores of St.Mary’s Bay Continue through Weymouth North to
Gilberts Cove on Hwy #101/Rte#1.
On trail onHwy #101/Rte #1: While atGilbertsCove a left turn takes you to the Gilbert’s Cove Lighthouse where picnic facilities and great views are found. On to Plympton and Savary Provincial Park,
where you can beachcomb at lowtide. This highway continues through Barton, Brighton andMarshalltown.
