where the visitor information?centre is located. At the Louisbourg Playhouse enjoy the nightly
live entertainment from mid-June to mid-October. From Rte #22, Havenside Road leads to
Lighthouse Point where the Louisbourg Light- house overlooks the majestic Fortress Louisbourg. The first lighthouse in Canada, constructed in
1731, once stood on this site and the light was provided by burning coal in an iron pan,mounted on a tripod. The current concrete structure is 32m (104 ft) tall.
Louisbourg is probably best known for the
Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site of Canada, one of the largest national historic sites in Canada. Allow a full day to tour this vast site. From the
parking area and visitor centre, shuttle buses arrive and depart every 15 minutes.
