Sivyer Steel, Rock Island Arsenal Agree to Share Capabilities for Customers Sivyer Steel Corp., Bettendorf,


Iowa, has signed an agreement with the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufac- turing and Technology Center, Rock Island, Ill., to leverage the capabilities of the two facilities when quoting jobs for future customers. According to a press release issued


by Rock Island Arsenal, the partner- ship is expected to attract more work by utilizing both plants’ resources. Sivyer manufactures large steel cast- ings, where Rock Island Arsenal offers steel parts in smaller weights. (The facility also offers parts in a number of other alloys and in the investment casting process.) Gary Taylor, head of global business development at Rock Island Arsenal, said the collaboration will begin im- mediately, and work will start when the first order is received. Rock Island Arsenal said the agree-


ment was in part signed to meet the objectives of the Arsenal Support Program Initiative, which promotes the commercial use of underutilized capacity at arsenal facilities. The ar- senal recently has undergone several initiatives to make it more competi-


Kinetic Die Casting Buys


Closing Competitor Kinetic Die Casting Inc., North Hollywood, Calif., has purchased the customer list and assets of nearby Coast Die Casting Co., Gardena, Calif. According to a statement released


by Kinetic’s president, Bob Thomas, the diecaster will continue to serve Coast’s customers, which include companies in the consumer, tool- ing, aerospace and aircraft products markets, among others. Coast was founded as a family-


owned business and later purchased by employee Richard White. The company was set for closing upon White’s retirement. “[Former owner] Dick [Sawtelle]


was well respected in the diecasting industry,” Thomas said. Kinetic is a job shop producing aluminum die castings for a variety of OEMs’ products.
