Sharing Our Stories
There are many ways we can find healing. Sometimes it’s going to the doctor or other healthcare provider. Sometimes it’s making a lifestyle change. Sometimes it’s listening to other people’s stories. When we listen to people tell their stories, our idea of what
is possible is challenged. We hear about someone who has faced failure or loss and not given up, and we understand on some level that we could do the same. This issue includes several people’s stories. You’ll read
about Bethany, a woman who faced breast cancer and hair loss, and found beauty during that process. Bethany is a writer and has written for Healthy Advice Magazine in previous issues. She approached me about this story and her passion for telling it was so strong that I couldn’t say no. Bethany told me that when she was going through treatment, she couldn’t find the answers she wanted to questions about what would happen to her hair and how to deal with the changes. She didn’t want other women to have the same difficulty getting those answers. So she wanted to share her story. You’ll also read about two women who courageously sought
second opinions when they weren’t comfortable with the suggested treatment plans for their health issues. They listened to their guts and decided they would be proactive about making sure they were getting the best care. And you’ll meet Britta, who at age 27, received a diagnosis that changed her life and her approach to her health. Her story is inspirational for people of all ages because it is never too late for us to make a commitment to our health. I want to thank these women for sharing their stories. They
challenge us and they encourage us, and they might even help us heal. What stories do you have to share? The early evenings and
cold weather of fall and winter are the perfect times to sit around, telling stories with family and friends.
Here’s to sharing our stories.
