questionnaires. Be clear about who you are and what you want in a person you date. Post a photo that is an honest representation of how you look.
Focus Forward When out on a date and sharing history, don’t focus your conversation on what went wrong in your failed marriage or on all the flaws in your ex. Steer clear of anyone who expresses a lot of anger about his or her ex, or seems always to be fighting with the ex. That is an indication that the person hasn’t really detached from his or her previous partner.
Try Something New Be a “joiner.” Now is a good time to expand your interests or pursue an interest that you haven’t had the time to enjoy in the past. Joining organizations, clubs, special interest groups (e.g., historical society, political groups, biking, skiing) will help you meet people who share your interests. Be open to making new single friends so that you can have support and a network for meeting other men and women through them.
Get Involved in Your Faith If finding someone who shares your faith is important to you, get active in your local house of worship. Join study groups. Volunteer to work at events or be an organizer of events. If there are a number of worship communities in your area that share your faith, organize an event that includes members of the other congregations.
Be Happy When you are out enjoying the groups that you have joined, be as outgoing and interested and happy as possible. Upbeat, happy people draw others to them. They are attractive and magnetic. They never appear to be lonely or desperate. ■
