Died peacefully at her home on August 13, 2010, after a long illness. She is survived by her two sisters, Linda Cottle Zack and Susan Cottle Ippolito, two nephews and one niece, Robert Ippolito, Andrew Zack, and Amy Ippolito, and her precious dog, Bella. She leaves behind many good friends and relatives who loved her and will miss her beautiful spirit. Cathy was born in Nuremberg, Germany and called many places home as the daughter of a US Army officer. Eventually settling in the DC area, she attended Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated from George Mason University. Cathy loved to travel and did so extensively as an executive at Expovision, Inc., where she worked until 2002. She served on the board of directors of the Alexandria YMCA and was a consultant with the charitable organization, Training Futures. Cathy’s love for animals and children was boundless and she will be remembered for her kind heart, her unselfish willingness to give her time, energy, and love to others, and for the deep connections she made with everyone she touched. A memorial service will be held in her honor at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax at 2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, VA on Tuesday, August 17 at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HART (Homeless Animals Rescue Team) of Fairfax Station, VA.

Trudy was born March 15, 1928 in Salzburg, Austria at The Abbey of Nonnberg, where the convent was made famous in the move“The Sound of Music”. Trudy met and married Duane Mullinix of Sioux Falls, SD in Salzburg, where he was serving as an MP in the US Army. They later lived for 30 years in Highland Falls, NY. Duane passed away on November 15, 1989 at Keller Army Hospital, West Point, NY.

McLaughlin, married for 67 years; loving mother of Robert, Patrick and Donna and four grandchildren. She was blessed and felt grateful to the many caretakers and healthcare professionals in her life who helped her and her family enable her to spend her final years com- fortably in her own home with Promise her sweet cat by her side. VIRGINIA IRENE LLOYD (nee ASH) Virginia Irene (Ash) Lloyd came into this world on Christmas Day, 1925 in Stamford, CT, and returned to her Maker peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 9, 2010 at her home in Columbia, MD. She was born to Matthew H. Ash and Ethel May (Shuttleworth) Ash and grew up in Old Greenwich, CT, along with her brother Donald P. Ash and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, many of whom lived in adjacent houses, and her best friend Betty Hawkins. She loved visiting her grandparents, Agnes Ann (Pearson) and John Shuttleworth, in Stamford, Conn. and other relatives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn,NY.
She attended Old Greenwich Grammar School (1939) and the College Preparatory track at Greenwich High School (with Junior Honors, 1943), and continued on to technical training as a laboratory assistant in New York City.
She worked for Atlas Powder and American Cyanamide, where she performed lab tests, which led to the development of the ubiqui- tous diuretic medication, Lasix, which both she and her husband Archie E. Lloyd of Everett,WA depended on in their last years.

She met Archie at Jug End Barn in the Berkshires ofWestern Mass., while he attend- ed King’s Point Merchant Marine Academy (graduated 1944). Although his career in the Navy duringWorldWar II and the KoreanWar, as well as being a Navigator for Grace Lines, kept him at sea, he continued to court her on his frequent port calls to New York City throughout the late 1940s and early 1950s. Archie settled on a career at the US Navy Hydrographic (later Oceanographic) Office in Suitland, MD, and they married on June 6, 1953 in Old Greenwich, Conn., and moved to District Heights, MD, where she lived for the next 52 years.
She worked as a secretary at Andrews AFB before her children were born and at various

She spent most of her adult life devoted to numerous organizations and causes, includ- ing the District Heights Homemakers (and eventually also the Prince George’s Co. and Maryland state home extension groups), vari- ous PTA associations, a founding member of theWomen’s Alliance at the Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, various other church groups (Church Board, choir, Greeters, Memorial Committee and Endowment Com- mittee), the Cuties, annual church fall bazaar, Neighborhood Watch, and a host of political and neighborhood causes in District Heights, MD. There was never a local or church event that she did not attend, often as the first person in the kitchen and one of the last to leave afterwards to attend to refreshments and make sure that everyone was accom- modated. She was a virtuosic pianist, who played hymns at her church youth group in Stamford, Conn., occasionally at Davies and as a substitute pianist at Bradburn Memorial Methodist Church in District Heights,MD.
For the last half of her life she was devoted to caring for her husband Archie, who died in 1983 of complications arising from diabetes, and a host of elderly women, including her mother Ethel, her Aunts Mildred Shuttleworth and Emily Smith of Stamford, Conn., and neighbors Gerry Brown, Ethel Harrell, Emily Robey and Betty Bailey. She was always available to take her friends shopping, to the doctor’s, or to get their hair done. She also had a special fondness for cats, who seemed to adopt her at every opportunity.
Virginia, known as “Sis” to her side of the family and“Ginny” to Archie’s side, is survived by her older son William Allen Lloyd of Upper Marlboro, MD and his wife Joyce, and her younger son Steven Andrew Lloyd of Colum- bia, MD and his partner David Kincaid, and grandchildren Christina Elizabeth (Lloyd) Strickland, Matthew Benjamin Lloyd (both of Houston, TX) and David Andrew Lloyd of Upper Marlboro, MD, and great granddaugh- ter Morgan Strickland of Houston,TX.
A family interment was held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland MD on Saturday, August 14. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 2 p.m. at Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, 7400 Temple Hills Rd.,Camp Springs,MD.

CAROL CLEMO MURPHEY (Age 70)
Carol Clemo Murphey, beloved wife of 27 years and best friend of Thomas Bradford Murphey, passed away on August 4, 2010, from acute coronary insufficiency. A native of Pampa, Texas, Carol was born on November 26, 1939, and spent most of her life as a Virginia resident. She attended Stanford University and completed her undergraduate degree in Latin American History and Psychology at Harvard University. Carol had a distinguished career – most notably her work of more than 20 years devoted to our nation's security at both SRI International and SAIC. Carol retired in 2001 and subsequently devoted her time to her family as well as serving the community where she led such a noble life – and where she did the the work of which she was most proud – volunteering at the Northern Neck Free Health Clinic and the time she so cherished spent with young children at Reading Partners. Just recently she served her community in her work at the U. S. Postal Service in Lottsburg. Carol's devotion to family, loving and giving kindness to countless others and profound love of flora and fauna defined her life. Carol is also survived by her loving family – daughter, Anne Marsh and her husband Will; son, Bruce Cormack and his wife Michele; daughter, Dawn Brown and her husband Butch; son, Kevin Murphey and his wife Misti; brother, Thomas Clemo and his wife Ann; sister, Susan Frisk and her husband Randy; and sister, Julie Gray and her husband Bob. Carol considered one of her greatest blessings in life to be her beloved grand- children – Kate and Ian Marsh; Aidan, Emma and Kalin Cormack; Brad and Savannah Brown; and Lilly Murphey. She is also survived by other loving family, and very special friends who know who they are. Carol is preceded in death by her loving parents – Maxine and Bill Clemo. Captain ROBERT M.WALL, USN (Ret.) (Age 52)
received his BA form North Carolina State and his Masters in Public Administration from Auburn University. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Wall’s initial sea tours included duties as Boilers Officer and Navigation Officer in USS John King (DDG 3), and Navigation Officer in USS Hayler (DD 997) from 1981 to 1985. After graduating from Department Head School in 1987, he returned to
Of Atlantic Beach, passed away August 12, 2010. Mr. Wall was a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and called Virginia Beach, Virginia his home- town. He was a graduate of Bayside High School in Virginia Beach and
sea duty as Operations Officer in USS STUMP (DD 978) with a subsequent tour as the Operations and Readiness Officer in Destroyer Squadron TEN. He commanded the Missile Hydrofoil USS GEMINI (PHM 6) from 1992 to 1993, and the destroyer USS SPRUANCE (DD 963) from 1999 to 2001. In July 2004, he reported to Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (COMUSNAVSO), Mayport, Florida as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans (N3/N5/N7). Mr. Wall retired from active duty as a Captain in April 2007. In July 2007, he was hired as COMUSNAVSO’s Supervisor, Strategic Planning, a YC 02 grade position, and he also serves as the Deputy ACOS, Plans, Policy & Strategy. Mr. Wall’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit (with one gold star), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with four gold stars), Joint Service Commendation Medal, and various service and campaign awards. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Joyce Wall; children, Taylor and Jordan Wall; parents, Kermit and Marilyn Wall; sisters, Laurie Rineker and Kathleen Lancelot; in-laws, Harry and Joan Reynolds; and many other loving family members. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 17 in Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 18 in Neptune Baptist Church, Neptune Beach, with Reverend Tom Bary officiating.
