Futuristic footwear In post Recession times it is inevitable that thoughts turn to the future as well as the past. Looking forward to brighter prospects, it is necessary to adopt the appropriate footwear, and eyes instinctively turn to minimalist plastic and Perspex accessories that are imbued with more than a touch of sci-fi flair. A continuation of the easy-wear minimalism promoted on the catwalks by Celine and Calvin Klein, whose simple shapes and fuss-free wearability has far reaching implications.
Clear wedges and heels give the illusion of walking on air, the lightness reiterated on the
catwalks by Michael Kors, whose high-shine white leather finishes are juxtaposed with clear inserts and opaque stiletto heels. This modern uniform is reiterated by Josh Goot, whose silver metallic leather upper contrasts with am almost invisible strap and frosted heel and wedge.
This forward thinking is, however, tempered with a touch of realism, as practicality remains a relevant necessity. Prada’s chunky plastic clog features a natural canvas strap, the simple detailing adding a soft harmony to the prevailing aesthetic. Versace’s ankle boot achieves a similar effect, combining a fusion of soft suede and tan leather with sinuous metallic details and a wood
and plastic heel balances natural with innovation. The lesson? Look to the future, but take heed of the past. Embrace seemingly incongruous elements to create a considered outlook.

Perspex block heel A chunky solid heel in Perspex is elevated with a platform in the same material. A solid black upper emphasizes the contrast, and adds an element of practicality of the design.
Strappy platform sandal Fastening with a Velcro strap at the ankle, gray straps criss-cross the foot. Laid over a flesh colored upper, they simultaneously give an illusion of minimalism whilst protecting the foot.
Futuristic clog Taking inspiration from Prada Spring Summer 2010, the clumpiness of the clog is tempered by clear heels. A peep-toe and ankle buckle further elevates the style from its somewhat humble origins.
Sci-fi mule The sci-fi potential of the slip-on mule is realized with the addition of a clear plastic strap, which secures the shoe to the foot. A subtle opaque wedge is paired with a tapered heel; the black leather upper provides a dramatic contrast.
Summer Boot Reappropriate the ankle boot for summer with a peep-toe, and nude details. Adapt the style for this trend with a solid platform wedge and heel in a frosted plastic finish.
Geometric sandal The strong shapes of the sandal upper are reflected in the unusual shaped stiletto heel, which widens as it joins the shoe. Nude flesh tones juxtapose against clear plastic inserts, shiny and matt textures emphasizing the sharp, jutting shapes.
