The concept is simple: a business lunch for two professionals. But the twist, the interesting part, is that it’s blind. The technical term that we have coined for this social experiment is micro networking.
So, two willing volunteers who are confident enough to take a risk on the chance of business benefit step alone into Bem Brasil and wait to see who will join them for their lunch break...
This month we have Lisa, who owns her own company, Stylisa, and Marianne who works for The Rejuvenate Group. The chosen ‘2 Do Lunch’ venue: Bem Brasil, Deansgate, Manchester. Let’s see how they got on…
THE LUNCH
What was the atmosphere like?
It was lovely - very warm and inviting.
How was the service? The service was excellent and very friendly.
LUNCH PARTNER
First impressions: Marianne looked lovely and very friendly.
How was the conversation? Free flowing or any awkward silences?
The conversation was very free flowing - Marianne was easy to talk to and I can talk for England, so conversation was not a problem.
What did you talk about? Work, social media, going out, music, bars in and around Manchester, Sex and the City, shoes, handbags, Wales… everything!
Did you have much in common? Yes we have lots in common. We both travelled a great deal with our families when we were young. Also, Marianne has a degree in fashion and I work in fashion, so we had lots to talk about on the fashion-front. We’re both not big outdoors-people and we both love cocktails.
Do you think there is a chance you will work together in the future? Yes, I definitely think we will work together in the future, especially on the social media side of things. On the event side of things, there could definitely be scope for a collaboration, especially if it’s around fashion.
18 - WORK
What was your lasting impression?
That Marianne was lovely and a pleasure to speak to and have lunch with.
Would you recommend 2 do lunch? Yes I would definitely recommend it - it’s a great alternative to mainstream networking. I actually prefer it. This kind of Work is the Life for me… see what I did there ;-)?
