FREEMATHS RESOURCESAND LESSON PLANS CREATED BYTEACHERS FOR TEACHERS

NSPIRING Learning, a virtual mathematics resource centre offering free classroom-ready resources created by teachers, has been launched. The site, developed by

innovative STEMsubject resources provider Texas Instruments (TI), provides teachers with tried, tested and ready-to-use classroom activities and lesson plans in addition to software downloads, video tutorials and online support. The activities on the site have

been created to engage pupils via innovative teaching approaches combined with the use of technology. The site has a focus on investigative activities that encourage pupils to explore the world of maths and discover its

relation to – and effect upon – the world around them. Fully searchable by age range, curriculum area or keyword, the activities offer the chance to implement new ideas and techniques without the need for time consuming pre-planning. Andrea Forbes, fromTI’s UK

education technology team, comments: “The use of technology in teaching has increased rapidly over the past few years and teachers have some fantastic ideas for activities that inspire and engage children. Putting learning in the hands of the children with the use of technology is an incredibly effective method of teaching.Alot is expected from our maths teachers in the UK. This

online resource was developed to help teachers, enabling them to share ideas, best-practice examples and new techniques to enrich the way the subject is taught.”

CPD Nspiring Learning also allows

teachers to comment on activities, upload their own suggestions and explore the CPD opportunities that are available through T3 and the leading mathematical associations in the UK. Information on research into TI technology and support services are also available through the site. Nevil Hopley, national T3 trainer

and head of mathematics at GeorgeWatson’s College, Edinburgh, says: “The Nspiring

Learning website is now my first port of call for finding quality teaching resources and ideas for use in my classroom. The quality is assured as each activity has been written by an experienced TI-Nspire-using teacher and has been peer-moderated before being posted on the site. In addition to this quality content the site also proves to be very easy to navigate and to preview activities, so no time is wasted while you locate the perfect activity for your students. This is by far the best designed and best supported resource bank for UK maths teachers.” Go to www.nspiringlearning. org.uk to find out more.
