The Cleaning Show 2011:

1-3 March 2011 - NEC Birmingham an event not to be missed

The organisers of The Cleaning Show 2011, being staged at Birmingham’s NEC on 1-3 March 2011, report that stand space is selling fast - and the show is still nine months away. Martin Scott, exhibition sales director, said: “The Cleaning Show is the UK’s only major event where companies can market, sell and promote their products and services to an

international audience. Each year the show gets bigger and better, attracting thousands of visitors keen to see all that’s new in the cleaning sector. In 2009, the show welcomed over 8000 people - that’s a huge captive audience willing to be sold to.”

The Cleaning Show is organised every two years on behalf of the cleaning industry by BCCE Ltd, a company jointly owned by the British Cleaning Council and Quartz Publishing & Exhibitions Ltd, publisher of C&M. “As an exhibitor you can be sure that the Cleaning Show is in the hands of a team with an unrivalled blend of industry knowledge and exhibition expertise as

well as one that is working for the long term good of the cleaning industry,” said Paul Michael, managing director of Quartz Publishing & Exhibitions and BCCE Ltd. Exhibiting at the Cleaning Show does more than raise your profile, it puts you in front of people with money to spend. Martin Scott continued: “Visitors to the Cleaning Show have big budgets and the authority to spend them. Of the 8000 visitors to The Cleaning Show 2009, approximately 20% had an annual budget of between £51,000 and £250,000 to spend on cleaning and maintenance equipment. In addition, more than 11% of visitors had over £1 million to spend each year. Where else can you find a captive audience with such buying power?”

Visitors, too, benefit from being able to compare products and processes from all major manufacturers - under one roof. And this year the visitor experience is being made easier with an online registration function added to the brand new Cleaning Show 2011 website. The Cleaning Show is

sponsored by all member associations of the British Cleaning Council, and the Media Sponsor of the event is Cleaning & Maintenance magazine (C&M).

A limited number of stands remain available and those will sell out soon. Don’t miss out on the cleaning industry’s unmissable event - contact Martin Scott to secure your place:

New OspreyDeepclean distributor in Scotland

The new distributor in Scotland for OspreyDeepclean steam cleaning machines and the branded GumBusters system is Fife-based Royal Warrant holder Cleaning Systems UK.

Awarded the Royal Warrant for specialist cleaning services to Her Majesty the Queen, Cleaning Systems UK has a very simple, but extremely successful formula for its success. According to sales director Craig Manson: “Every cleaning machine or system we sell is backed up with extensive knowledge of correct usage, care, repair and

service gained from generations of commercial cleaning experience. The decision to get into steam came about following numerous customer requests and was viewed as a compatible expansion of our business, delivering further benefits to our existing and new customers. “We did our research and found OspreyDeepclean very informative. The machinery is of a very high standard, and what’s more, it dovetailed nicely with our concerns about eco-friendly cleaning. Using water-only is ‘green’ anyway and the quantity involved is very small, so there’s also less waste. We work for or supply some of the biggest hotel names and nursing home groups in the country and steam is also an automatic choice for sanitising. The applications to which steam cleaning can be applied are virtually endless. One of our first sales was to a well-known Highland toffee confectioner who needed to solve the problem of removing sticky sugar residue from production machinery. Previous methods had proven to be time consuming and not particularly satisfactory. A site visit was arranged and the OspreyDeepclean Vega Plus was recommended. Following a successful demonstration the machine was purchased. Whilst not always necessary, training in the correct procedures was provided and the system proved to be so effective a second machine was ordered a few months later.” www.cleaningsystemsuk.com

Commitment to ‘employer owned’ apprenticeships welcomed

Asset Skills has welcomed the new government’s commitment to apprenticeships and hopes it will boost efforts to promote skills training through the new employer funded Virtual Academy for Business Services.

It follows the announcement by the new Secretary of State for Business Vince Cable that he is committed to ‘high quality, employer owned apprenticeships’ and will refocus £150 million into an extra 50,000 apprenticeship places in 2010/11. “We are delighted that the Secretary of State for Business has recognised the importance of employer owned apprenticeship programmes,” said Richard Beamish, chief executive of Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for facilities management. “Employers will be greatly encouraged by the fact the new government is expanding apprenticeships so rapidly and recognising them as being good for the productivity of the economy. The pledge to increase the number of apprenticeship places, especially for small

businesses, sits well with the new apprenticeships we are trialling in facilities management as part of our new Virtual Academy for Business Services.”

The Virtual Academy pilot was launched by Asset Skills in May. The model is innovative in the world of skills training in that it is funded through its employer membership and does not form part of the National Skills Academy network which draws on the public purse.

Business Services has been identified as a future growth industry in the government’s National Strategic Skills Audit 2010, which claimed raising skills in this area should be a priority.

The apprenticeship in facilities management is the industry’s first apprenticeship programme. To kick off the Virtual Academy, the scheme is being trialled in six regions of England. A series of early employer events are planned to promote the apprenticeship.
