Analogic Receives US$9.7 Million Order


Analogic Corporation has announced that it has received an order from L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems, Inc. for Explosive Assessment Computed Tomography (EXACT®) systems valued at approximately US $9.7 million. The TSA-certified eXaminer 3DX®, developed by Analogic and L-3 Communications, incorporates the EXACT subsystem. This new order is expected to start shipping in the third quarter of fiscal 2010. More than 900 eXaminer 3DX systems are installed


in airports around the world, screening checked baggage. The system features advanced, multi-slice CT imaging technology and provides full 3-D images of all the contents of a bag, enabling automatic detection of explosives.

Pilot to be Conducted at Boston Logan


Implant Sciences Corporation has announced the inception of a pilot programme supported by East Coast Airport Services (ECAS) which provides a broad and diverse range of services to the aviation industry including air cargo screening . The programme will be conducted in ECAS's air cargo screening facilities at Boston Logan International Airport. "This program will allow for the collection of key operational data in the fast paced real-world of air cargo screening. This will offer critical insight to the Company and its customers as they develop effective and efficient operational protocols to satisfy the requirements of US Public Law" said Todd Silvestri, Vice President of Technology for Implant Sciences.

TSA Awards IT Infrastructure Contract to CSC


The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that it has awarded its Information Technology Infrastructure Program (ITIP) contract to Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) for the deployment, maintenance and enhancement of TSA’s IT infrastructure capabilities. The award could be worth a total of approximately


US$489 million for the full five-year life cycle. The ITIP contract augments TSA’s ability to protect


its information technology network from cyber-threats and ensures that TSA has the IT infrastructure to support computing and communications hardware, software and related services. “This contract award provides TSA with the


information technology infrastructure and secure IT systems support crucial to carry out our mission across transportation systems around the country and internationally,” said Dr. Emma Garrison-Alexander, TSA’s Assistant Administrator for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.


Ghana Installs Soter Through-Body X-Ray Scanner


LaserCard Corp. has announced the next generation of U.S. Permanent Resident Card, most commonly referred to as the ’Green Card’, featuring advanced optical security media, enhanced visual and forensic security features, and a Radio Frequency Identity (RFID) tag. The new card represents the first time optical security media and RFID have been implemented on a single card platform with sophisticated, tamperproof features. The cards digitally store the cardholder’s photograph, fingerprint, name,


digitized signature, date of birth and registration number. This information cannot be erased or fraudulently altered and private data can be read only by DHS personnel using a custom secure reader. LaserCard has supplied the U.S. Government with more than 20 million Green Cards since 1997.

Ghana has become the second African nation, following Nigeria, to upgrade its airline security with the installation of a Soter through-body X-ray security scanner. The scanner was bought by the U.S. Government and donated to Ghana as part of a programme to boost security at airports that have been identified as ports of embarkation for drug mules bound for the U.S., according to Netherlands based OD Security. Unlike millimeter wave and back scatter scanners being widely deployed elsewhere, the Soter provides a through-body X-ray image that can detect any objects hidden in or on the human body within just 10 seconds, negating the need for intrusive strip searches, according to the company. The scanner has been installed at Accra International Airport, and six


members of the Ghanaian security staff have undergone training at the OD Security training centre in The Netherlands.
