EMS SOURCING

Skilled staff creates a customer- services oriented environment

customer’s changing requirements and needs is the back bone of our success.

what capabilities does STI have as a contract manufacturer?

Manufacturing and Engineering services has three distinct departments. There is the contractmanufacturing lab, which consists of two production lines. These production lines are prototype and development smt line which produces 1 off prototypes to 500 units for low rate production and beta testing electronic assemblies.

There is also a low- to mid-volume production

line capable of 500 plus to 20,000 units per month of contract manufactured assemblies. These lines are capable of placing 0201 and 01115 as well as bumped die and odd form components fully automatic with the latest in Juki pick-and-place equipment. There is also automated visual inspection (AOI) before and after reflow and there is an extra-long 13 zone Heller reflow oven to insure proper thermal management for either lead free or leaded solder alloys.

probe in-circuit tester and conformal coating line as well as solvent or aqueous cleaning units.

The second lab is themicroelectronics development and

production lab which specializes in placement of bare die either bumped or wire bondable down to .010 by .010 and can handle these die either in wafer, waffle and or gel pack state. This lab utilizes the latest placement equipment fromDATACON and has both large and small wire bonding capability as well as automated visual inspection. It also has the latest in clean roomHeller reflow equipment as well as plasma etcher and DAGE shear tester and wire bond test capability. This lab is designed for low-tomid- volumemicroelectronic assemblies and sensormanufacturing.

The final lab is used both as an internal support lab as well as

an outside service center for failure analysis andmaterial qualifications. This is the Analytical Lab. This lab performs a number of services to outside customers and clients frompure failure analysis to production support. This lab has 2 scanning

Laboratories utilize the latest in placement equipment and technology

electronmicroscopes with one being a special large low vacuumchamber capable of handling 6-inch by 9-inch assemblies. Also included with this oversize chamber is an energy dispersive x-ray unit used for the quantification of anything on the periodic table. Also enclosed within the lab is FTIR, IC,Wetting balance, XRF, ROHS compliance and an environmental test lab. Also as a value added service there is x-ray andmicrosectional analysis lab.

whatmakes STI’s contract manufacturing services/capabilities unique?

Engineering services helps customers design and develop solutions addressing size, weight and power issues

It is really our size (small and nimble - responsive), people (skilled) and the capital equipment (tool set) that is available to meet the challenges of our clients. The ability to solve and/or help our clients solve complex SWaP objectives and thermal management issues by utilizing all three departments in a cooperative environment allows STI to create a customer services

To support these production lines is a fully programmable flying

oriented lab environment that delivers results. One must have skilled staff capable of listening and understanding the challenges and objectives necessary to quantify the issues at hand and be nimble and responsive in a cooperative environment that allows both companies to find the correct solution to the problem/variables that must be overcome.

The companymust also have the equipment and resources to

get the job done and the analytical lab to verify and quantify that the solution truly addresses all the issues or variables present. It sounds simple but in reality requires a lot of discipline and staff expertise tomeet the growing objectives and challenges facing today’s electronic assembly design objectives. There are a lot of good and great contractmanufacturers and the ability to distinguish one’s self as a full service partner and not just a contractmanufacturer is the essential element to success.
