Working on a flat surface I cover the entire painting while leav- ing only the area to be painted exposed. It’s like setting up for an operation. Too many times I’ve accidentally dropped some paint or even get some paint on the side of my hand and ended up making spots every time I touch the painting surface. I now take the time to protect my work. I proceed to trace the outline of each letter by hand, using a calligraphy pen dipped in black

FW Artists paint. Then using a very small paintbrush I paint the inside of each letter. Should I accidentally go aver my traced outline I can always come back and fix with some white with the calligraphy pen. Once I’m done I take the time to erase all the left over pencil marks to obtain a crisp look. Make sure your paint is well dry before erasing and don’t press too hard.

Even with the Malboro patch not fully completed, I decided to move on to what I call my phase or work area # 02 the bracelet. I used a small piece of frisket film for this area and scrap paper for the rest. I started with some fluorescent hot pink from Createx, then some light brown, some sepia and some yellow to complete the bracelet. The bracelet is done completely free hand. I had my reference photo right next to the painted area while con- stantly referring back to it. Make sure it’s very close this way your eyes don’t have far to go between the two. After the bracelet I painted the background with a mixture of cool grey from FW Artists and some leaf green from Cre- atex. The background was an easy thing to do so I kept this for a time where I was a bit too tired to undertake the skin area.

When I first started this painting I had made the decision that I would not mask the panties but instead would have the paint colour completely cover the back of the girl.

I started by applying a base colour through out with a mix- ture of both flesh tone colours from Createx and FW Artists.
