I then position my newly cut acetate on the paint- ing making sure that it’s positioned at the right place. I then use the same paint formula used on the right side to do a slight mist of paint. I then remove the acetate and then proceed to paint- ing all the creases by hand and with hand held shields. I added some black to the sepia for the darker creases. For this, I work very close to my painting at around 15 PSI with my needle pro- tector removed. I can get thinner lines and it also allows me to see where I’m aiming my airbrush.

Using acetate sheets cut perfectly to follow the center seam, once properly positioned, I tape the top portion to the painting surface in such a way that it allows me to lift each section indi- vidually without removing them. This allowed me to work on the highlights one side while using the acetate on the other side as a shield. Also by spreading them a bit I was able to paint the darker portion of the seam while keeping a nice curved line. I simply added a touch of sepia to the main red colour.

With the dark portions of the creases completed I proceed to work the highlights. I used some pink from Createx reduced with water by about 50%. I want to be careful to not over do it. I work by hand and with some shields in very thin layers of paint till I get the desired effect. This is particularly thru for the large area on the left side under the large white highlight.

For painting the shadows of the creases on the right hand side of the pants, I turned the painting 90° making it easier to work free hand. I’m more comfortable working with horizontal movements than vertically. Don’t let the painting dictate how you work. When your not comfort- able, stop, don’t force the issue and try another position. It’s whatever works for you.
