Angela Lyon Speaks with Carol Gold

Angela: Hi, this is Angela Treat Lyon with the International Association of Women Sculptors. I welcome you to today’s interview. I’m speaking with Carol Gold, who can be found at CarolGoldSculpture. com, and we’re going to be discussing outdoor sculpture - where to look for it, what to do with it once you’ve got it, how to take care of it, and all kinds of other interesting questions that you may not have thought about.

So Carol, welcome. I’m so happy to have you with me today.

Carol: Well thank you. I’m enjoying talking to you.

Angela: When you did your first public sculpture, you were talking about how you entered a competition. Why don’t you tell us about that.

Carol: I got that commission by applying to a competition. And I was chosen, and proceeded to have the piece enlarged and then cast. And I didn’t know what I was doing, and there were disasters along the way.

Angela: Oh, no.

Carol: Oh, yeah. I went through three foundries. One of them went out of business while they were in the middle of my project.

Carol: I ended up spending way more than what the commission paid to get it done. It did get installed. Then, there was a problem installing it because I wasn’t there for the base.
