Carol: A lot of sculptors do this themselves, they enter competitions. I no longer do that, but one of the things that has come up is as time has gone on there are more requirements from the cities, especially in California, for earthquakes.

Angela: Oh, of course.

Carol: And they used to have to be engineered, and the cities are now requiring huge insurance. So there are a whole lot of requirements that you need before you can even install a piece.

Angela: That’s kind of discouraging, isn’t it?

Carol: Well, it is unless you’re dealing with somebody like my wonderful art dealer who takes care of it.

Angela: So let’s say I came to you and I wanted a piece, and I’ve got my garden overlooking the ocean or something like that. What would you look at? Would you –

Angela: It’s interesting to find out that there are so many little twists and turns along the way.

Carol: There were.

Angela: You look at a sculpture that’s sitting there in a park, and you don’t think of what goes into the actual creating of it and the installation of it. All you see is this giant man on a horse or a beautiful woman dancing or whatever, and that’s that. You don’t think about all the disasters and things that could happen along the way.
