Conditional access specialist Verimatrix has appointed Petr Peterka as chief technology offi- cer. Peterka was previously a member of the technical staff in the CTO’s office at Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility team. He will succeed Bob Kulakowski, a founder of Verimatrix, who remains a share- holder and an adviser.
German cable operator PrimaCom has named Hans
Peter Leube as
managing direc- tor of its PrimaCom Management division, as well as a member of its enlarged board. He was previous- ly in charge of human resources.

Laurence Miall-d’Aout as chief of staff for its free-to-air opera- tions, and Martin Lewerth as chief of staff for the group’s pay- TV operations. Miall-d’Aout has been CEO of the group’s free-to- air emerging markets business since January 2008. He replaces Alexander Holland, who is leav- ing the company to pursue other opportunities. Lewerth has been the group’s chief technology offi- cer since 2007.
Satellite operator Eutelsat has appointed Ethan Lavan as direc- tor of the in-orbit resources divi- sion. Lavan joins from Inmarsat where he was responsible for reg- ulatory policy and management of service and spectrum licences. Separately, Eutelsat has appoint- ed Lisa Sanders Finas as direc- tor of investor relations. Sanders Finas was previously director of investor relations at French tech- nology company Wavecom.
Infrastructure provider Ericsson has named Mike Volpi, the for- mer Joost and Cisco executive and a partner at Index Ventures, to its board. Ericsson has also named Hans Vestberg, its new president and CEO, to the board. Before being appointed in January, Vestberg was Ericsson’s chief financial officer.
French cable operator Numerciable has recruited Thierry Lemaitre as its new chief financial officer. He joins from Rentabiliweb, an online audience monetisation specialist, and has previously worked at France Telecom and Wanadoo. He will join the French MSO next month.
Infrastructure provider Alcatel- Lucent has appointed Lord Stephen Carter, the former head of UK communications regulator Ofcom, to the newly created role of chief marketing, strategy and communications officer. Lord Carter was most recently the UK’s communications minister. He resigned 18 months into his tenure after publishing the Digital Britain report.
Central and eastern European broadcast group CME has appointed David Sach as chief financial officer. He will replace interim CFO Charles Frank on March 1. Sach was previously CFO at Clearwire Corporation and before that at Millicom International Cellular.
Finnish public broadcaster YLE has named Lauri Kivinen as its new director-general. Kivinen, who will replace Mikael Jungner at the end of April, is currently head of corporate affairs at tele- com infrastructure provider Nokia Siemens Networks.
Discovery Networks International chief operating officer Sahar Elhabashi is leaving the company and will not be replaced. Her departure comes soon after that of Greg Ricca, whose departure as president and CEO of interna- tional was announced last December. Separately, DNI announced that Luis Silberwasser is taking the new role of international head of con- tent. He will report to Mark Hollinger, DNI’s recently installed president and CEO. Silberwasser has been at Discovery since 1998 and is currently senior vice-presi- dent of the content group for Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic and general manager US Hispanic Networks.
German broad- cast group ProSiebenSat.1 has hired Dan Marks, who pre- viously ran UK IPTV service BT Vision, as an executive board member. He will become responsi- ble for new media operations and will replace Marcus Englert, who will leave at the end of April.
Satellite services operator SES has appointed Andrew Browne company chief financial officer. Browne replaces Mark Rigolle who is leaving SES to become CEO of satellite infrastructure start-up O3b Networks. Browne, who starts in his new position in April, is a satellite industry veter- an, having served as CFO of Intelsat between 1995 and 1998 and subsequently New Skies Satellite until 2008 when it was incorporated into the SES group.
