channel architecture allow users to perform both SD and HD transcoding and transrating. Key features include bidirectional video transcoding from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4/H.264 and/or H.264 to MPEG-2 in all common HD or SD formats, as well as ASI and IP transport stream and optional RF interfaces. The TXS 3453 offers up to 16 channels. The new Sencore SMD 989 DVB-S2 modu- lator supports the modulation of two independent DVB-S2 RF transmissions, packaged in a two- channel, 1RU chassis. It provides satellite video delivery multi- stream capability and further accepts transport streams via DVB-ASI or IP inputs using the UDP or RTP protocols. In addition, the SMD 989 features optional agile L-band upconverter with an output frequency range of 950 to 2150MHz; sustains all modulation formats defined in the DVB-S2 standard, and offers optional multi-stream inputs along with an agile RF up-converter.

‘enhanced join in progress’ to help broadcasters manage over- runs in live events and a new Media Ball configuration tool, which assists in taking new chan- nels on-air more quickly. Snell will also highlight two new additions to the Kudos Plus line of rack- mountable standards and format converters. The new CVR800 frame-rate and format converter and the TBS800 format convert- er and synchroniser both offer a range of features and functionali- ty, including support for 3Gb/s operations and composite video I/O, designed to improve efficien- cy in the broadcast workflow and a range of user controllable enhancement tools to enable users to obtain their preferred visual effect.

WHAT DO THEY DO?
Snell will launch version two of its Morpheus automation product at the NAB. Snell will demonstrate a playout solution that runs on Morpheus and Morpheus ICE. It says the reduced hardware requirement of Morpheus ICE lowers power consumption and at the same time brings additional redundancy to IT-based hardware. Other new functionality for Snell’s playout solutions includes

S&T Player is an MHEG applica- tion for VOD services including catch-up TV, with flexible back- office integration using the new Mediator product. S&T Player offers a configurable and cus- tomisable application for brows- ing and navigation of content as well as playback control for hybrid broadcast broadband plat- forms. RedKey 2 is the latest ver- sion of S&T's MHEG-5 middleware engine. It offers a modular archi- tecture and supports all of the current international profiles of the MHEG interactive TV stan- dard, including those implement- ed in various Freeview services.

WHAT DOES IT DO?
Streambox says its SBT3-5300 encoder is ideal for live news broadcasts distribution of video to cable headends, SNG/ENG vehicles, and other video delivery applications that require high reli- ability and performance with min- imal power consumption. The 1RU solution packages all capabilities of Streambox's ACT-L3 codec in a smaller, lighter-weight chassis — delivering compression at data rates ranging from 64Kbps to 15Mbps. The system's forward error correction and burst error protection helps to mitigate pack- et loss and network jitter, Streambox says.

tomer viewing quality. To further assist operators, the software can display video thumbnails from multiple points in the network and can backhaul video and audio content from any probe in the network. For more difficult prob- lems, engineers are able to see detailed information on the root cause of issues at the IP, RF or TS layers at any point in the network. The IPM400A is a concurrent probe that provides real-time analysis of all video and audio content within a GigE link, and the MTM400A directed diagnos- tic probe which provides deep analysis capability for ASI and QAM, COFDM and DVB-S/S2 RF links. The IPM400A can monitor up to 500 IP flows and all essen- tial parameters including TS errors, IP packet inter-arrival time and MDI.
