The Chairman
Dear Members,
Welcome to a new decade and a new and exciting season before us. A few changes, but then Ham Polo Club is used to these over its proud 84 year history, and I am sure we will all rise to the challenge as our predecessors have done in the past. Let us just hope that the ‘barbeque summer’ they promised us last year has merely been re-scheduled for this season!
I would like to start my letter of welcome by sincerely thanking Steve & Gillie Lamprell for their kind & generous support of the Club over the years and in particular for the donation this season of a new public address system which we have needed for years – it should allow for lower volumes and better coverage than we have ever managed in the past, which will be of great benefi t to both our members and neighbours alike!
We are delighted to have an excellent team in the Polo Offi ce under the direction of Peter McCormack and Adolfo Casabal. Laura Aalen, our Administrator, has spent the winter months clearing up the fi nancial anomalies of the past two seasons so that she can turn her attention to the future and Benjie Davis, a welcome young addition, is responsible for the Club’s marketing. It is a strong team and I am sure you will give them all your support.
We were pleased and extremely proud to see so many of our Junior Players , under the expert guidance of Marianela Castagnola, coming along in leaps and bounds, putting some of the older players to shame. They played some sterling Mini Matches on quite a few occasions to a very impressed and astonished crowd. We look forward to more of the same, if not better, this coming season.
Each year my list of people to thank gets longer and more impressive, so to avoid running the risk of being too repetitive, I will omit the familiar names in my extensive register, since those people know who they are but at the same time, I wish to thank them most sincerely on behalf of the Club and its Members for all their formidable and unerring support of what we do and achieve. However, I would particularly like to thank our President Vichai Raksriaksorn and our past President Ali Albwardy most sincerely for their continuing generosity and support which has allowed us to improve the Club each year.
All that is now left is to wish the Players a happy and successful polo season and our Members and their guests many pleasurable afternoons at the Ham Polo Club for 2010.
