Naissance

Matilda Grace Benson

Tilly for short, an 3.9kg daughter born in March to Tom and Estelle, a very brave woman who gave birth without the benefi ts of bute, was happily home four hours later. Our congratulations to them both and Tilly’s little brother Jack.

Delphina Eloise Olympia Ashburner-Nix

A happy surprise for Olympia and Bertie one early Monday morning in January, a daughter weighing 3.25kg. Father managed to shirk his paternal duties for a Caribbean work trip but is now happily back home sharing responsibilities.

Matteo Castagnola-Fernandez

A much awaited and wanted birth in January of a son weighing in at 4.4kg born to Marianela and Lucas on the exact due date. Mother Mary and Lucas will be proudly bringing Matteo to Ham for HPC baby sitting services. Bets are being placed as to how early Matteo will be joining Marienela’s junior players. We will look forward to this.

Nuptials

Mr & Mrs Marin

Miss Emma Ledamun and Mr Pablo Marin chose Ham Polo Club for their wedding, seemingly a natural choice of venue. The Marriage took place at the Clubhouse on Thursday, 17th September on a bright but chilly day followed by a wonderful luncheon with family and friends. The happy couple were then joined by their polo playing friends to continue the celebrations, cleverly chosen on a Chukka night. Other important invitees were the couple’s polo ponies, an absolute must. The evening continued with the couple being feted later with all the ‘Boys’ partaking in the compulsory ‘Bar Dancing.’ Needless to say a Happy Time was had by all.

Many Congratulations to Mr and Mrs. Marin.

Dearly departed

John O’Driscoll

Our much loved John, Hon. Treasurer and playing Member at Ham for many years, decided to retire from the workplace to devote his time to his family and polo. He subsequently returned to his homeland Ireland where he supported polo in Phoenix Park, Dublin. The inclement weather fi nally drove him back to England and Ham where he enjoyed winning

his last match in the green shirts of the Cormorants during 2009 season. We were deeply saddened to hear of his sudden death in early March and will miss him dearly. Our support will always be here for his wife Catherine and their family.

David Greer

David, a New Zealander, who lived in England and became our resident expert and much appreciated Mr.Fixit with all matters electrical and plumbing; sadly died in early March. A good man with a great sense of humour and always ready to help us out – David will be diffi cult to replace indeed.

ALWAYS REMEMBERED

Louis Nchindo

A good friend to Ham Polo Club died in February of this year. Louis was always interested in Ham, often down on a Sunday to have lunch with friends, and also his family. He was also very generous to the Club kindly donating the much loved Club Golf Buggy amongst other things. Louis will be sadly missed.

Elsie Shedlock

Elsie was the wife of our long standing Club Steward Steve predecessor to Bunny May. Elsie would religiously drive down every Sunday morning to drop Steve off in time for his duties and most importantly she brought with her, each week, beautiful hanging baskets which would adorn the front veranda for the day. Elsie would then return to collect Steve, who certainly enjoyed a pint or three during the day, and her fl ower baskets to be tended at home during the week. After Steve died she went to live in Scotland, a move she regretted as she was so far away from her beloved club and the area she had lived in for so long. Sadly in her unhappiness she declined and passed away in January. Elsie will be fondly remembered.
