2009 ChildLine Day

by Dante Carmassi

I’m proud to be associated with helping to organise the event. This wonderful annual event which raises much needed funds to provide a voice and practical help to distressed children is the highlight of my year. The organization is always fl awless, detailed planning into the catering, staffi ng, decor and ambiance all provides the basis of a superb party. A perfect occasion in which you can leave the tension behind in London and de-stress with a glass of champers whilst getting caught up in the excitement and speed of an excellent game of polo. Whilst you’re unwinding you are contributing to a charity investing in our children’s safety and future - ChildLine.

The quintessentially English atmosphere you sense when approaching the white buildings of Ham Polo club set like a diamond amongst the luxuriant jade green lawns of the immaculately manicured polo fi elds; the brightly attired vibrant crowd dressed in sixties retro, immediately transports you back to a more carefree jubilant age when we were only a few optimistic years away from trips to the moon and world peace.

This was an age when London was the centre of everything associated with chic and style; the Beatles were topping the charts and Carnaby St was the fashion worlds Mecca. These were the thoughts I had when arriving at Childlines Polo Fundraiser which was themed ‘Swinging Sixties’.

It will be my 4th year on the committee in 2010 and it is an honour to write an article to introduce last years event.

Its always worthwhile and fun because Childline is a great cause and we all catch up with the team members all of whom are now good friends. Each year the committee shows great

dedication to making this event such a social highlight for so many whilst never forgetting the noble cause we are focusing on.

Each member of the team concentrates on the tasks at hand and Annie is always nearby to weave her social magic to ease the tensions caused by the looming deadline.

At last we are ready for the reception where we can fi nally relax with our fi rst of many glasses of bubbly and appreciate the Polistas play simply stunning international quality polo.

Another feature of Ham Polo Club is the understated way members, guests and Celebs mix with the ease of Ham’s very English relaxed way. It is always inspiring to hear Childline’s news on what have been done with fruits of every year event.

After a superb dinner and too much champagne last year I was spotted running across the polo fi elds calling ‘YOOHOO Scooterman’ - who eventually found us in the wilds of Middlesex and who safely transported us home.

I’m fl ying half way across the world to participate in this years event which promises to be better than ever - I look forward to meeting you there.
