The hydraulic solution to green waste recycling

Hydraulic solutions from Parker Hannifin have enabled a manufacturer of woodchippers and green waste shredders to produce a new machine that is both versatile and intuitive. The Multi-Task MT 120 incorporates a complete package of hydraulic components and systems, offering multi-purpose functionality for applications ranging from building and excavation to vegetation work

A

s a designer and builder of chippers and shredders since 1993, GreenMech produces machinery that enables its cus-

tomers to meet all their green waste recycling needs. As well as offering high performance, these chippers and shredders are robustly constructed, have low maintenance requirements, and are safe and easy to operate. The company’s latest machine is the

Multi-Task MT 120 which carries out such operations as mulching green waste and earth moving work in a range of environments. This is carried out by the use of a number of interchangeable tools and it has self adjusting supports that ensure the vehicle remains level and secure no matter what the terrain.

Development

During the development process, the company needed a method of driving the machine over difficult and steep terrain while carrying potentially heavy loads. The machine also needed to be simple to manoeuvre and con- trol. Knowing the hydraulic solution selected would be an integral element to the success of this machine, the

Combined, these compo- nents are used to both drive the tracks of the vehicle and also control the front end of the attachment. The six station D1VW valve is used to tilt the

company turned to Parker Hannifin for the solution. After a number of consultations

with GreenMech & Parker’s European systems team to pinpoint the company’s requirements, Parker offered a suite of hydraulic components and systems that would enable the Multi-Task MT 120 to offer both high performance levels and simplicity of use. Among the products supplied were

A simple solution

Furthermore, a crucial element in the success of the MT 120 is Parker’s IQAN solution, which has been devel- oped to make it simple to design and control complex hydraulic systems. IQAN enables the many functions of the vehicle to be selected and controlled using a joystick inside the cabin, allowing the MT 120 to be operated safely and effectively with minimum training. In addition, the

machine features a specially designed IQAN based auto drive functionality, which acts as a type of cruise control, slowing down the machine if a higher load is sensed, or vice versa. Again, this results in less work for operators and more efficient performance. Being specially designed for mobile

equipment, IQAN offered the company a fast, ready-to-use solution to the control requirements, as well as one that allowed flexibility. Using IQAN, Parker was able to design a programme specifically for the MT 120, providing GreenMech with the ability to adapt and modify the control system of the machine as its functionality evolves. Perhaps as importantly, the platform also enables remote diagnos- tics to be carried – ensuring immediate support to its customers wherever they are in the world. Tony Turner, chairman of

GreenMech, commented: “From the machines delivered so far, the control system has far surpassed our cus- tomers’ expectations. “ He added: “By combining flexible

and reliable operation with a system that is simple to control and tailor, the MT 120 is simply the most versa- tile and intuitive product on the market. This has been confirmed by GreenMech being awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for the SAFE-Trak system featured in the design of the Multi-Task.”
