only reduces the cost of replacing the chain, but it can also cut downtime. This is particularly important on production lines that run 24 hours a day as lost production time cannot be made up. With downtime costing up to £50,000 an hour for some manufac- turers, the savings from simply using a chain that lasts longer can be seen in just a matter of months or even weeks. For where lubrication is either
difficult or undesirable, the company is offering the self-lubricating Syno chain. This uses a specially designed sintered
bush containing the lubricant and only makes this lubricant available when the chain is operational. More lubricant is supplied at higher speeds, but when the chain is at rest all the lubricant returns to the sintered bush. For applications where corrosion
might be a problem – the food indus- try, for example – stainless steel chain can be used. Renold’s Klik-Top polymer block chain for conveying applications has no sharp edges coming into contact with the conveyed goods and the polymer blocks can be ‘clicked’ on and off individually without the need to remove the whole chain from the application. The Solution range also includes the
Sovereign chain for abrasive applica- tions where there may be significant amounts of dust and debris; while Hydro-Service chain has been treated with a series of coatings to provide protection against corrosion. According to the company, chain with the Hydro- Service anti-corrosion treatment will resist corrosion up to 30 times longer than a standard carbon steel chain but with the same working load capabilities as standard steel.
