Measuring acceleration and deceleration in demanding environments
A range of accelerometers for measuring acceleration and deceleration within demanding environments has been launched by Sherborne Sensors. The A545 series of single, biaxial and triaxial solid state linear
accelerometers, which is available in ranges from ±2 to 500g, has an advanced MEMS sensor with air damping. This enables it to operate over a wide temperature range. The sensors are fully compensated for temperature effects on both sensitivity and zero, and have positive mechanical stops. Features of the A545 include a lightweight and robust housing,
shock resistance and reliable over-ranging protection. It can operate from an unregulated DC power source and has useable frequency responses from DC to several kHz. According to the company, applications for the range include data
acquisition systems, crash testing, fatigue life monitoring and prediction, low-frequency vibration analysis and structural surveying. Units can also be custom designed to meet requirements.

Digital Hall-effect position sensors
Four new ranges of Cherry magnetic position sensors have been launched by ZF Electronics. The MP1014 series of digital
Hall-effect position sensors has a low-profile flange-mount hous- ing and includes two unipolar switch models (MP101401 and MP101402) and one bipolar latch model (MP101403). Meeting IEC529 IPX5 standards for water protection, these have reverse battery protection to -24VDC. MP101401 features south-pole activated unipolar switching and has a maximum operate point of 185 Gauss (south) and a minimum release point of 60 Gauss (south). MP101402 features highly sensi- tive unipolar switching and a maximum operate point of 95 (south) and minimum release point of 20 Gauss (south). The MP101403 can be used where a bipolar latch is needed. The MP1001 series are solid
state, magnetic position sensors featuring electrical immunity protection, and are suitable for applications which require a stable output over an operating temperature range of -40˚C to +105˚C, including safety doors, power sliding doors and flow sensing applications. MP100101 and MP100102 position sensors
are compatible with unregulated power supplies and reverse battery protected to -24VDC, and also feature internal circuit protection to IEC529 1000. Their open collector (sinking or NPN) output can be used with bipolar or cmos logic circuits with a suitable pull up resistor. The MP1005 and MP1007
solid state magnetic position sensors offer output stability from -40˚C to 125˚C (MP100502) and -40˚C to +105˚C (MP100701). These are south pole activated, reverse battery protected to -24VDC and do not require a regulated power supply. For applications which need a
convenient snap-fit mounting sensor, such as door interlock sensing, speed sensing and water flow sensing, the MP1013 series of two unipolar switches (MP101301 and MP101301) and one bipolar latch (MP101303) can be used. These Hall-effect position sensors also offer solid- state reliability and excellent output stability over an operating temperature range of -40˚C to +85˚C. Their open collector (NPN) outputs can be used with bipolar switch or cmos logic circuits. Electrical specifications include: operating voltage range from 4.75VDC to 24VDC, 9mA maximum supply current (MP101301 and MP101301) and for the bipolar
latch,
MP101303, operating voltage range is 3.5VDC to 24VDC, with a supply current of 4mA maxi- mum.

Tubular proximity range extended
Balluff has expanded its GlobalProx line of tubular induc- tive proximity sensors. A large range of products is
now available. The tubular 6.5mm, M8, M12, M18 and M30 sensors is available in multiple varieties of 3-wire DC and 2-wire DC outputs, resulting in over 350 available models. The most recent expansion
Accurate torque
measurements
The performance of HBM’s T40 all round torque flange has been improved with a rated measuring range, meaning it is now available with rated torques of 200Nm, 500Nm, 1kNm, 2kNm, 3kNm, 5kNm and 10kNm. Designed to provide accurate torque
measurements, this has identical electrical configuration throughout the series, allowing the torque transducer to be used for a wide range of applications without cumbersome modifications. Uses, for example, range from friction performance measurements, and applications for engine or gear test benches, to chassis test benches. Compact in design, these are mainte-
nance and wear-free and the measured torque can be output via a voltage or frequency output. It will also connect with Ethernet TCP/IP and integrate with numerous fieldbus interfaces.

New throttle position sensor launched
Penny + Giles has launched the TPS280DP throttle position sensor which incorporates a factory programmable Hall effect sensor and has two outputs that can be programmed individually for angular range, output range and direction. Mechanically interchangeable with
most existing throttle potentiometers using 32mm mounting centres, the sensor is designed to interface with most common throttle body D type spindles and is available with 200mm or 500mm cable lengths with or without an MSS4P Mini Sure Seal connector fitted to the DR25 sheathed spec 55A cable. The sensor has a tested life of more than 20 million operations.
