Franchisenews
DECEMBER/JANUARY 2010
Permission required
■ THRESHERS FRANCHISEES are unlikely to
consent to being sold to any purchaser of the
business, following the administration of First
Quench Retailing Ltd, owners of the Threshers
off licence.
There are 55 out of 65 Threshers franchisees
who have formed an action group and
appointed franchise lawyer Geoffrey Sturgess to
represent them.
Speaking on behalf of the franchisees
Geoffrey said: “Unlike employees who always
have the right to refuse to transfer to a
purchaser of a business, franchisees can, in
theory, be transferred without their consent.
They have not ruled out the possibility of
agreeing to be purchased but would need to
have certain conditions satisfi ed beforehand.”
At the time of writing, the administrators have
not responded to a formal request, delivered
to them on 6 November. The franchisees are
also currently considering whether to put in
a collective bid to purchase the franchised estate.

Papa John’s has strictly got the X-factor
■ PAPA JOHN’S Pizza has broken its
Saturday record four times in the last six
weeks. The pizza delivery company has seen
business boom as Britain’s stay at home
culture continues to build at the weekends,
with prime time TV scheduling consisting of
programme such as Strictly Come Dancing
and the X-factor, helping the company
achieve record on-line sales performances
for both Friday and Saturday nights.
As one of the leading delivery and
take-away companies, Papa John’s Pizza
continues to push its UK expansion plans
and recently reported a 15
th
consecutive
quarter of comparative sales growth.
