SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS
For the 16th year running, the Department of Sport awarded a number of scholarships to élite sporting students of the University at a presentation evening in December in the Pavilion Bar, College Park. The Scholarships were presented by Mr Pat Hickey, President of the Olympic Council of Ireland. Thanks to the funding received from various sponsors, the Knights of the Campanile and proceeds from our annual corporate Golf Classic, a total of 25 Scholarship were awarded in 13 different disciplines.

From College Courses to Lasting Links
The DU Golf Society, a graduate society, celebrated their Centenary this year with the launch in the Provost's House of the book From College Courses to Lasting Links written by Michael Halliday B.A. (1971) and Gavin Caldwell B.B.S. (1969). The book charts the story of a golfing society founded 100 years ago for graduates of Trinity College. View the club website for more information at

Badminton Club Back at the Top of Irish Badminton
The Leinster Badminton Open took place in January last with Trinity represented by Andrew Hogg, Kevin Kerrigan and Karen Moloney as well as graduates Aoife Aherne B.A. (2005). Hogg and Aherne joined forces in the mixed doubles competition where the duo took the title of mixed doubles Leinster Open Champions 2009.

DU Squash Racket Club Host Oxford
DU Squash Racket Club hosted Oxford Friday in January for a weekend of matches and entertainment. Trinity edged out a close encounters on the court with good wins from Rory Byrne, Karlis Zauers B.A. (2006) and John Dillon B.A.I., M.Sc., M.B.A. (1992). Trinity lost the Saturday tie but some competitive doubles matches were played afterwards. The weekend was an overwhelming success and thoroughly enjoyed by all involved.

DU SWIMMING CLUB WINS INTERVARSITY
The Irish Swimming Cup has returned to Trinity. The DU Swimming Club captured fi rst place at the annual Irish Intervarsity Swimming Competition in Belfast, beating out thirteen other Irish Institutions. The ladies, led by Anne-Marie Fenton, Ruth Wallace, Deirdre Kindregan, Aoibhin Curran, Ruth Hegarty, Gillian Gavaghan, Jane Kelly, Sharon McLaughlin, and Jen Ryan, fi nished fi rst overall. The men, led by Colm Garrick, Josh Walker, Ian Thom, Ryan Bartlett, Jeff Walsh, and Shane Ahern, tied for fi rst place with NUIM.
