TCD Economics Professor Appointed Governor of the Central Bank
Professor of International Financial Economics and Development, Patrick Honohan, has been appointed the next Governor of the Central Bank by the Minister for Finance, Mr Brian Lenihan B.A. Barrister-at-Law (1981) T.D., Professor Honohan is the first academic to hold this post.
Previously, Professor Honohan was a Senior Advisor in the World Bank working on issues of financial policy reform. During the 1980s he was Economic Advisor to the Taoiseach and spent several years at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Dublin, and at the Central Bank of Ireland. Professor Honohan has published widely on issues ranging from exchange rate regimes and purchasing-power parity, to migration, cost-benefit analysis and statistical methodology.
Win for Trinity at the National Irish College Awards

The Philosophical Society won the ‘Best Event in a Large College Award’ for its event, The Trials of Oscar Wilde, and Mark Atkinson from Trinity Players was awarded ‘Best Fresher in a Large College’ at the recent National Board of Irish College Society Awards.
The Irish College Society Awards are run by the Board of Irish College Societies (BICS) which is a national organisation dedicated to providing a national forum for societies in Ireland's universities, colleges and education institutions.

Trinity Annual Fund Student Awards 2009

Economics and Political Science student, Nicholas Kenny, was announced as the overall winner of the 2009 Trinity Annual Fund Student Awards at a ceremony held in April. From among 29 applications for this year’s competition, five finalists were short listed. The other finalists honoured on the day were Trinity students Hilary Allen, Paul Gallagher, Jennifer Geraghty, and Mark Moore.
Supported by alumni, the purpose of the awards is to recognise students who have made an outstanding contribution to Trinity life in the past year contributing through sports clubs, societies and other areas of College life.

The 20th Annual Trinity Second-Hand Book Sale
The 20th annual book sale took place in the Exam Hall in April 2009. The event is now firmly established as a feature in the College year. Donors were generous throughout the year and the Committee had worked very hard to organize and price even more boxes of books than usual.
Despite the terrible weather, just over €27,000 was raised. The Committee would like to thank the donors and to assure readers that work is in progress for next year’s sale. In these difficult times the monies raised by the sale are vitally important for the development of the research collections in College.
The next book sale will take place 18 to 20 March 2010.
Awards for the Science Gallery
Science Gallery, Trinity College has won two prestigious awards in its 1st year. It was overall winner in the Culture and Tourism category of 'The Irish Times Living Dublin Awards 2008' for its ground breaking exhibition TechnoThreads, which explored the connections between science and fashion. TechnoThreads, on show between April and July 2008, aimed to illustrate the impact of science on fashion for a young audience. Science Gallery was also delighted to receive an award at the 'ICT Excellence Awards' for best use of technology in education and training. Science Gallery continues to use technology to communicate a broad range of science and technology subjects, including the world's first live epidemic simulation which formed part of the INFECTIOUS exhibition.
