OutDoor 2009
It’s the biggest show of the year for the
international outdoor industry, and this year’s
OutDoor produced many prize winners for
innovation.
With many categories in its popular Industry
Awards, we don’t have the space to cover
every winner here, but here’s a round-up of a
few winners and their innovative products.
Haglöfs won an OutDoor Industry Award for its
outdoor trekking boot, the Grym, part of their
2010 Spring collection. Grym is a newly developed,
technologically advanced boot for trekking and hiking in demanding terrain with
a heavy backpack. The boot's upper is made of SuperFabric – a technical material
that is 60% lighter than leather, more water resistant, fast
drying and very durable. Rubber rand protection is
replaced with Smartlite, which is 45% lighter than
rubber.
Deuter picked up a prize for its Spectro
range of hiking packs. This is a new
range of technical, lightweight
backpacks, with fine-tuned
fabrics, frame, foam and
features to create a stripped
down, no-frills day rucksack. Yet, the
Spectros guarantee fantastic comfort and great durability with a unique back
system, functional details and extra strength where needed.
The North Face celebrated a win
for its new Zephyrus Pullover. This
lightweight, insulated Summit
Series wind shell is pieced from a
ripstop nylon outer layer and a
low profile, Primaloft One
insulated inner layer to create an
ideal layering piece that is as
packable as it is wearable. The
streamlined Alpine fit, elastic-bound hem and
cuffs, deep zip neck and zippered
chest pocket add to the versatility of the Zephyrus.
Teva won with two products, the Itunda and the
Tirra; the new Itunda is a sports sandal with a
difference, ready for adventure on the river
or the ground its unique design
protects toes while allowing feet to
breathe while its non-slip Spider
Rubber outsole performs when you
need it most.
The women’s Tirra takes the wearer from
town to trail and beyond with three points of adjustment, traditional Teva
architecture and modern styling.
Finally, Columbia scored a win with both the exciting
Ravenous trail running shoe, and the Mobex trail
pack, both from the Spring 2010 range. Clearly
delighted by the double win, a Columbia
spokesperson said: “This year, Columbia was
thrilled to find out that two products from the
S10 range were awarded and recognised by
the International Forum design at The
Outdoor Show. This is an amazing
achievement for Columbia and
shows a great support for our
commitment to innovation.”
