OUTREMER Words by Lesley Davis
OUTREMER
CUP 2009
Before you read on, I thought I ought to declare my hand – this is Lesley Davis of
Multihull World who represent Outremer in the UK. We were due at the factory to carry
out the handover of a new Outremer 45 to a client – timing was apt as it coincided with
the Outremer Cup itself. So… while Mike was checking through the boat with the new
owner, I was free to enjoy the weekend activities. If I was not a convert before then I
was definitely a convert afterwards and I do represent the female of the species! – these
Outremer are true sailing machines – at 18 knots it felt like a beach cat, totally in contact
with the water and yet at the same time the owner’s dog could wander around the deck
and we all sat with a glass of wine! Even with little wind, these catamarans are real “eco
warriors” harnessing the natural elements, still moving at 4.5 knots with the gennaker
flying in 5 knots of wind. So, read on……
THE
CATAMARANS
Altogether twelve Outremer
catamarans assembled
for the 4 days of friendly
competition. It would be
lovely to have even more

having sailed away to the
Caribbean and South America; needless to say they were
not keen to return to Europe just yet! As it was, the crew for
MANTRA II did all take the time to fly in from Sweden (and

were awarded a special prize of a bottle of whisky from an
invited client for making the effort). The daily line up was

Grande Motte for the whole of the weekend for the
Outremer Cup! As one owner put it, “I had to wait till
my 7th time participating in the cup to benefit from
such exceptional weather – a true test to show off the
formidable nautical qualities of our boats………”
The Outremer Cup has been held annually for over 20
years and has maintained its reputation as a very friendly
event combining a mixture of regatta spirit, dreams of
far distant voyages by owners and crew, all brought
together by the professional and welcoming approach
of the Outremer company. LAIA Outremer 45 PLAY 4 WIN Outremer 64
