The high frequency word fish can either be
used as front of class flashcards or as a
permanent wall display. Each of the Phase fish
are a different shape and is colour coded to
fit in with each of the different Phases. The
tricky words are of a lighter shade so they
can be easily identified against the decodable
words.

Phase 2 recommends fans for teaching the

recognises that there are 100 high frequency
words to be studied across Phases two to
five and that children should be given lots of
practise with sounding and blending the
decodable and tricky words.
Learn those high frequency words by passing
the ball around the class. Can you say the
word underneath your right hand? Each ball
includes the decodable and tricky words for
each Phase.
