The UTS-15 has a 200-lumen LED light in the forearm, which is as bright as many duty belt-carried flashlights. An integrated green laser is also available.
The UTS-15 is available with a combination muzzle brake and tactical standoff tube. It also accepts Beretta- Benelli screw-in choke tubes.
weighs about 8.5 pounds, fully loaded. This weight is to- tally manageable and does two things: it reduces felt recoil, and it reduces muzzle rise.
We fired a fully loaded UTS-15 as fast as the action could be cycled and found it to be totally controllable. Actually, it was both easy to keep on target and pleasant to shoot. The straight-back weapon design and the weight of the shot- shells above the barrel both work to eliminate muzzle rise. Heads-up: For operators used to a pump shotgun, you may short-stroke the UTS-15 the first few times. The ‘throw’ of the pump stroke is actually the same as any 12-gauge shotgun. However, the full rearward movement of the pump slide on a bullpup design ends up a lot closer to your body than a traditional pump shotgun. It takes just a few shots to make the mental adjustment to perform a full rear- ward stroke. Long-time pump shooters have a bit of muscle
memory to retrain…but it is definitely worth the effort. From our shooting experience, we have one recom- mendation. Knurl, texture, stipple or otherwise increases the friction on the pump slide. It is smooth enough to allow the operating hand to slip, even with a good grip. A sweating hand or wet deployment conditions make this even more of a cycle reliability issue.
Overall, the UTS-15 is maneuverable and makes getting hits easy. And, 15 rounds is a lot of lead headed down- range. For the tactical operator used to a 14-inch pump shotgun holding just 4+1, the UTS-15 takes shotgunning up to a whole other level. It has an MSRP of $1,099. The other big news from UTAS-USA is the release of a semi-auto version of their Ultimate Tactical Shotgun. They made their first shipment of 500 auto-loading shotguns to stocking distributors in early-December. One of these is on the way to us…standby.
